If you think you may have ongoing need to transfer files between portable iOS devices and or a computer you might like to consider something like the SanDisk iXpand flash drive https://www.lifewire.com/sandisk-ixpand-review-2740740
I used to be conceited but now I'm perfect.

Yup! iTunes tried to stuff all of the photos (12 gigs!) that were on my Mac desktop onto my iPad. I had to physically disconnect to stop it, and I'm still stuck with about a gig of photos on my iPad that I can't delete unless I ditch them from my Mac too.

I finally used Bluetooth, album by album, and got enough photos off my phone so that I could update to iOS 12. Albums are all scrambled, but so goes it. Now I just have to back up the photos from my iPad to my Mac desktop...

Thank you to everyone here for such great advice and many solutions. When my broken wrist heals I will try iMazing and all the links y'all generously provided.

Bummer on your wrist and I hope it heals well soon.

In the interim, maybe try Mac's Dictation and a few of the other OS handicap helpers if you're not doing so already. Just a little reminder... Some may help your Wrist Healing session...
