    iPhone 6+: keep or trade-in/up
    Hi Everybody!

My 6+ hasn’t quite the history of being dropped, although most of those were in a decent case.
Possibly the worst that has happened was running through a downpour to my car, drip-scrambling in, and reaching to charge my nearly dead phone to find only an empty pocket. I looked back over the parking lot and spot it, face down, white case spattering massive drops of water. I opened my door and the rain became ping-pong ball hail. Fortunately, I parked under a tree, so there was only injury, no insult.
The hail spattered on the blacktop battering my ears for about three minutes.
Then it stopped. Suddenly, the sun.
I retrieved my phone from an inch of water running across the parking lot.
Took it home & took it apart as much as I dared, then buried it in a sealed Pyrex with a bunch of silica packs for four days.
Everything worked fine, except Siri, with whom I rarely spoke, anyhow. Seems odd, because calls work fine & I can record with a variety of apps.
Next strike was the horrible update # xx.xxxx that made our batteries go haywire and overheat: I have yet to replace mine.
One recent drop cracked the screen, which I had replaced at a non-Mac related store because A) my wife had hers done there with no issues, B & C) it was about $50 less than the awful Simply Mac store in the local mall. It was not a stellar job & has slowly degraded over the past year.

A more recent drop cracked the screen again.

The question is, expert community members, do I trade in this poor old thing, or do I try to squeeze in an appointment at a real Mac store while I’m on vacation to have the battery replaced and a new screen installed?

    I’m into the screen for $100.00. Another screen + battery = $300.00-ish.

That would be $400-ish vs a trade-in for whatever I’d get for that.

    Thanks tons!

    Welcome to our forums.

You need a new phone. Yours has undergone quite a bit and simply is not worth spending any more money on repairing. I doubt you'll get much on a trade in but you can try. New iPhones are expected within the next 3 months which should lower the prices on current models. Also the Apple on line refurbished store has iPhones that are like new and come with a full warranty.

FYI...a "poor condition" iPhone 6+ trade-in value is about $80 bucks. Excellent maybe $200.

    Morning Folks,

I had a feeling the new phone option would be the more popular choice, despite the trade-in value.

Thanks for putting the thread where it goes, Pigoo.

Don't forget to check the Apple on line refurbished store for like new (with full Apple warranty) iPhones. It appears they have quite a few iPhone 7 and 7+. Those offer great savings. Of course you can always wait until the new phones are out (in the next 3 months) before deciding.
