    Hi John,

I am pretty sure I can solve your problem as I have had it myself on a couple of iPhones. You will also find that the problem will get worse to the point that you can not use your apple earbuds to skip to the next song or raise of lower the volume when listening to iTunes. It was this continuing of the symptoms that made me realize that the problem was pocket lint had become packed and built up in the headset hole. This build up lint and such will not let the headset plug fully enter the jack and this is what caused all of my issues. I turned off my phone and cleaned out the hole with ( I don't recommend this ) a tiny screw driver like used for glasses repair. After digging around a bit ( I again say i don't recommend this,,) I tapped the phone on my counter and out came a fuzz ball! I have since changed my preferred tool of this repair to the little plastic tooth pick that is on my swiss army knife....

    Hope this helps

Thanks. I misdiagnosed the problem. The iphone actually amplifies when I speak and it is supposed to do that as I just got back from the apple store. I noticed it as I have used a BB since 09 and the headset that ships with the BB the mic is located in a different location much farther away from my mouth.
