iPad frozenMy iPad completely froze today when I was trying to "reformat" it. (I'm sure that's not the correct term.)
The only thing on the screen is the Apple logo and the horizontal bar below.
I'm unable to shut it off.
I think the iPad is a model 2. Perhaps 3-4 years old.
Anything I can do?

Is the progress bar moving? How did you "reformat" it? Why were you doing that? Do you know what version of iOS was on it? Is it a iPad, iPad Air, iPad Mini or iPad Pro?
More information please.--

Reformat should have been the restore function.
iPad Air.
FWIW I was able to get the iPad turned off.
Attempting to fix the problem results in an error code of 9. Tried to update and then restore. No luck.
No movement on the progress bar. (Didn't know that's what it was called.)

I was not attempting to restore from a backup, but rather to make the iPad "clean" or factory new.
So don't ask me how I was able to do it, but when I re-attempted after several failures I just got it to restore. I don't know why it didn't work before but does so now!
Anyway, problem fixed. I'd like to know what made it successfully restore after a number of failed attempts, but I'm happy with it.
I do thank you for your useful help.Last edited by fireman0174; 10-03-2019 at 08:37 AM.

iPad frozenI know this is just pedantics but what I now understand is that you were attempting to reset (erase) the device, usually done from the Settings app > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings.
If you do an online search for "What to do before selling or giving away a used iPhone/iPad" you will find plenty of step by step instructions on this process.
There are a few services you should sign out of before erasing the device but as you have already succeeded it's probably a bit late for that.
What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Sent from my iPad using Mac-ForumsI used to be conceited but now I'm perfect.
