Smile IPad Air $99 "Battery service" by Apple details ?
    Hi All.. New here.

Missus has an out of warranty IPad Air w battery that has reached end of life.

    Virtually like new otherwise.

We are considering using the $99 battery service option.

But we have a few questions that I don't know if we have correct answers to.

I have spent hours on the net and advanced search here... too much conflicting info.

Apple site has very brief paragraph not answering my questions.

    * - Do they send you back the ONE you send in, OR a diff one someone else had ?

    * - Is it a full refurb?

    * - What and how long is the warranty after the Batt Service ?

PLEASE remember I am already confused by conflicting answers I have found so far.. So PLEASE only answer if you are quite sure.

Thank You ALL So much !!!!

    Marc

According to this page, the decision on whether you get a replacement or your own depends entirely rests with Apple. It does say that the replacement might be new or close to new and equivalent to what you have, i.e., refurb. I can't answer the warranty question, but a quick call to Apple should get you that answer.

From an iPad perspective, it looks like it's fine all around in the sense of either you getting back the iPad you currently have or a replacement new or refurb, both of which are perfectly fine.

It is strange that they wouldn't have a playbook to answer the warranty question since that's likely the first thing people ask after getting something replaced.

Hi Marc - have to agree w/ Ashwin that Apple should be able to answer your questions specifically - I'm sure that you've been to this Apple LINK - at the very bottom is the statement shown below suggesting a 90 day warranty, NOW is that for a battery replacement in your original device or does it also apply for a 'new' or 'refurb', basically after your original warranty has expired - again, Apple should be able to answer these question(s).

Several other points: 1) Make sure that you have several backups of your current iPad Air, both OTA and to a computer (again I'm sure you already know this) - you may have to restore your iPad to a different device w/ factory settings; and 2) Consider that the Air was release at the end of 2013 and is an old device, e.g. will it take the next iOS upgrade? A $100+ amount might be better spent on a new iPad, a refurb, or a trusted 'used' but newer model iPad, just saying. Dave

And I would strongly suggest using iMazing.app to make the backup and include all apps etc. in its backup option, especially if some of the apps installed are no longer in the App Store. Otherwise, they will be gone forever!!!

    Nice tip Patrick!

Losing older apps during the process would really stink!

When my wife’s iPad Air 2 went south during a oat upgrade and still with the warranty I sent it back to apple and we got a “replacement iPad” but it wasn’t,t the same one. It looked new but it didn’t come in a new box which I assumed (I know) I would receive a “brand new” retail unit. I wasn’t happy with that. With a unit a couple of months old we should have been given a brand new unit in my opinion.

Luckily everything was backed on cloud and restored and was just like the original one was. After that I only did updates on iOS plugged into pc with iTunes. Hope this helps.
