    Recent Download iPad Air Issues
    Hello,
After a recent update, the volume control on Youtube vanished. When swiped up, it's only the dock that comes up, still no volume control.Am I missing something? Also when Youtube is opened it is now in a scroll like format with the vids available on a scroll as opposed to singular. Is this part of the improved system?Thank you.If this is in the wrong place, my apologies and please move.

Which version of iOS are you running on your iPad Air? The newer Control Center for iOS 11 (if that's what you're running) is quite different than previous versions of iOS. You can access the Control Center in iOS 11 by going to settings, Control Center. From there you can either choose Customize Controls or swipe up from the bottom on the Control Center screen to bring up the controls. From there you should be able to set the volume for YouTube.

Thank you chsag.Yes, it's 11.03 that's running.I think I must be doing something wrong here. The control centre doesn't seem to have any mention of volume control and when I swipe up the only controls are the usual items that are in the dock on a desktop....safari,messages etc, but nothing to indicate a volume.I know that since the update when I swipe up on the iPhone 6 the panel of controls comes up, brightness control, volume etc but this doesn't seem to want to happen on the iPad?Thanks again for your patience

On the iPad the new Control Center appears a bit different from that of the iPhone. Did you try what I suggest above to access the Control Center from your iPad? You have to tap Settings, then select Control Center. You should then be able to select "Customize Controls". Or, you can swipe up (on that screen - right side) to bring up the Control Panel. From there you can adjust the volume control.

Hi chscag. Yes, I went to ‘customise control’ but no option on volume. There’s Timer, Camera and so forth but no volume?

Did you swipe up on the right side screen to bring up the Control Center visual? You should see two vertical sliders: Brightness and Volume Control. Make sure you're holding the Air in landscape mode not portrait.

It seems that many things are different on the iPad, and some almost hidden it seems:

Some shortcuts, such as volume control and AirDrop are tucked away. You need to use 3D Touch to expand controls and access these features.

Thanks Patrick. I didn't have time this afternoon to refer member "Irishman" to the new iOS 11 iPad views and screens. A picture as they say is worth much more than many words.

@Irishman: You notice from the link that Patrick provided that the volume contol and brightness are vertical sliders as I stated above. On my iPad (10.5" iPad Pro) 3D touch is not required to access those controls via settings. On your iPad Air it may be different.

It's becoming almost mandatory these days with the lack of consistencies and some things almost buried and hidden in the various Apple OS versions that seem to be becoming the norm unfortunately.

It also strikes me as a bit odd that Apple who stresses multimedia, seems to lack using graphics etc. in their own "help" webpages etc.

May I chip in with a few pictures and a few comments?

The iPad Pro certainly (and I believe this applies to all iPads) doesn't have true 3D Touch; in contrast to the iPhone 6s, 7, 8 etc. ( https://www.imore.com/why-ipad-pro-doesnt-have-3d-touch)

Accessing the Control Centre by swiping up works in both Portrait and Landscape orientation.

When you swipe up, the swipe must start on the metal rim, and then continue on to the screen and this needs to be done relatively slowly.

Here are images of the control centre in Portrait & Landscape orientation.

    Landscape.jpgPortrait.jpg

And this an Image of what you get in Settings > Control Centre

    Settings - Control.jpg

NB You cannot customise all of the control Centre options. Some are fixed, some can be added or deleted. (as shown).

Please excuse the poor image quality - had to photograph my iPad Pro using my iPhone and adjust the pics from there.

I hope this might help our OP?

Thanks for the picts and info Ian, but have they removed or reduced the ability to take screenshots with the iPad Pro and save having to do the photo taking thing??

PS: I guess the Apple programmers don't know how to use an apostrophe (') to shorten a word using the English language when I see stuff like "Screen Mirrorin"!!!

take screenshots with the iPad Pro
Just didn't think of that. Yes, iPads still have the screenshot option. Of course, would have been better, but you know...... it worked out anyway

Thank you everybody. My apologies for not replying sooner,I was away in very poor wifi land.I have tried swiping up from the rim slowly and still no joy. What comes up is the dock with messages, safari, mail, iTunes, notes, app store,a TV player and settings symbols.Nothing as described above.I do recognise the screen shot provided by IWT as that is what comes up on my Phone when swiped. But no joy on the iPad.

Clearly, there is something astray here. The screenshots I posted are from my iPod Pro, but are identical to what I see on my wife's iPad Air 2 and my iPhone 7. You are starting the swipe from the metal rim (yes), then continuing on to and right up the screen?

The only difference I have noted between iPad and iPhone, is that when you bring up the Control Centre on the iPad, it shows you all open apps and allows you to quit them with an upward flick. This does not happen with the iPhone. Apps have to be quitted by double-tapping the Home Button, then flicking them upward.

You have an iPad Air (heading on your post #1) and its running iOS 11.x (latest version is 11.1) - the only thing I might have guessed was a compatibility issue, but checking just now with the Apple site, clearly shows your device (and earlier!) to be usable with iOS 11 - as list below.

    12.9‑inch iPad Pro
    2nd generation
    12.9‑inch iPad Pro 1st generation
    10.5‑inch iPad Pro
    9.7‑inch iPad Pro
    iPad Air 2
    iPad Air
    iPad
    5th generation

Sorry I can't be more helpful.
