Restoring Backup onto my new iPad
I am trying to setup a new iPad. I want to restore a Backup from my old one in order to setup the new one. However, the new one has only iOS 8.3 and the old one has been updated to iOS 8.4.

Therefore I am trying to update the new one to 8.4 having set it up as a new device.

If I wipe it and restore the Backup after it has installed 8.4, am I correct in assuming the wipe will not take it back to 8.3?

So once updated and wiped it will allow me to use my Backup?

So iTunes has still not learned that iPads can be setup now independently of iTunes.

I am still trying to restore a backup onto my new iPad. Unfortunately, this involves a huge amount of data, which will use up more than my Broadband Download Limit, assuming I use a Restore from iCloud.

So I tried to make a Backup of the old iPad to my computer using iTunes. However, when I connect the old iPad to iTunes it asks if I want to set it up as a new device or by restoring a Backup (not from the correct device).

There seems to be no way to get past that and tell iTunes to leave it as it is and just make a Backup of it. Any option I choose is going to wipe the old iPad - which of course defeats the whole object.

Is there a way past this please?

I guess I'm missing something here. But if you backed up your former iPad to iTunes why can't you restore that backup to your new iPad? As a matter of fact, when you update to a newer version of iOS either on your iPad or iPhone you are given the choice of backing up the data first. And that can either be to iCloud or your computer via iTunes.

The Backup on iTunes is of my original iPad 1.

The Backup on iCloud is of my iPad Mini 2.

The new device is an iPad Air 2.

I want to Restore the iPad Mini 2 data onto the iPad Air 2.

It is doing this - very slowly - from iCloud, but I am running close to my Download Allowance.

The only way is to delay the rest of the restore until I can reach another Source of WiFi, such as my local Coffee Shop, probably on Monday.
