iOS 13 drains battery real quick.
Iíve been running iOS 13 on my iPad 4 for a week or two now, and it seems fine apart from a few glitches here and there.
But... the battery runs down super quick. Itís just sitting there doing nothing and within half a day itíll be flat.
    Anyone else seeing this?

I haven't noticed that on my iPad Pro 10.5". Seems like the battery is working normally as before. I'm using iPadOS Public Beta 3. You mentioned that you're using iOS 13 on your iPad 4, can you be more specific?

Well, isn't that a beta version? There should be a way to report it to the development team.

Iff you are indeed using one of the Developer Beta, as opposed to the Public Beta, this might explain the difference between your performance and Charlie's. The Developer beta probably shouldn't be considered remotely ready for public use.

Note that member "rachalmers" is not using the iPadOS Public beta but instead an iOS 13 dev beta. Two different betas. That might be the difference.

It seems that Apple is aware of this battery wear issue, and is building a new feature into iOS 13 that will try to mitigate some of the damage that the regular charging does to the lithium pack. The new feature, called "Optimized battery charging," will be turned on by default on devices.

If you are thinking of the same issue that I read about right after the keynote I don't think that is going to address the kind of battery drain member rachalmers is talking about.

The feature is indeed designed to mitigate the effects of charging but that's a different issue. Here's my understanding of how this feature would work:

Let's suppose that a user routinely goes to bed around midnight and puts their phone on the charger until they wake up the next morning at 5:00 a.m. The phone doesn't need the whole five hours to fully charge. Currently it finishes charging and sits fully charged on the charger for the next several hours. This pattern may happen nightly -- reducing the life of the battery over time.

The new charging protocol would charge the phone to say 90 - 95% and stop charging. It would then resume charging in time to top the battery off just before the user wakes up at 5:00 a.m.

On my iPad Pro it shows = iPadOS 13.0

However, I know that it's the public beta 3.0 that was downloaded and updated. And as I stated, the battery usage seems to be normal.

It wouldn't be unusual for the Developer Beta to be one or more revisions ahead of the Public Beta. Sometimes the betas will even have a slightly different feature set. A new feature, which needs additional improvement /tweaking to be ready for the public will appear first in the developer beta endnote make it into the public beta until it appears to be "ready for prime time".

The best way to tell whether you guys have the same version is probably to compare the build numbers of the two versions.

I think that when the beta for iOS 13 was made available you could participate in both the iPadOS and iOS public betas. I chose not to mess with my iPhone and instead just went with the beta for the iPad.
