    Wow! Dark mode on iPhone
I have tried this before and it was both inconsistent and, well, just plain weird in a lot of cases.
But thanks to the addition of "Smart Invert" it now works pretty well. The app icons remain the same but just about everything that was black on white text becomes white on black.

How to get dark mode on your iPhone
    Tap on the Settings app.
Scroll down and tap on General, then on Accessibility.
The fourth option from the top should be Display Accommodations. Tap on that, then find Invert Colors in the menu and tap on it.
Switch on the Smart Invert option.

No doubt you will either love or hate it but it's so easy to try, why not?
For me the change works particularly well with MS Word. In addition the stock standard keyboard has taken on a 3D aspect which I never noticed before.
So let me know what you think.

I liked it for about 5 minutes and then went back to normal.

I've been using Smart Invert it for a long time now, mainly to read long articles that are black text on a white background. The lens implants that I now have after cataract surgery are great. I can read almost everything without reading glasses. But, the glare of black text on a white background degrades the experience. Smart Invert fixes that. Similarly, I use white text on a black background to read books on the Kindle app.

You can get to it very quickly if you enable Assitive Touch and put the Accessibility Shortcut in the Top Level Menu. You need to have enabled Smart Invert in the Accessibility Shortcut.

Ratsima, that is a good tip. It makes turning the feature on and off very quick and easy. I did not know that specific Accessibility features could be added to Control Centre, I thought it would just open the Accessibility menu. I donít need the assistive touch element option but I can see how that would be a big advantage for some. My cataracts arenít that bad yet.

I got in the habit of using Assistive Touch years ago when people were having trouble with their Home Button wearing out. With Assistive Touch I've got one-button access to lots of useful stuff:

I'll wait for actual dark mode to be added, this is just inverting all the colors, so all the pictures look like negatives of old.

Did your Home button wear out too? Just kidding. My experience with it has been for the same reason. I just find the floating button a bit of a distraction. It always seems to be in the way. But I admit it has lots of handy functions, customisable too. I was very pleased when Apple increased the number of functions for the control centre.

Smart invert or not, Dark Mode on an iPhone to me is not something that goes well with my eyes. I love the Dark Mode offered by Mojave and those apps that support it, but not on an iPhone. I suppose I should try it out on my iPad Pro to see if I like it there.

It depends on what you're looking it. Smart Invert is smart enough to invert only the text and not the graphics when you're looking at, say, The New Yorker or the New York Times.

And, BTW, screenshots don't work as you might expectÖ.

Aha, yes I see that now. You'll have to take my word for it but they looked absolutely fine on my phone, Photos as normal while the forums site was inverted but as I can see that's not how they turned out at all. Believe me that's was not what I was looking at when I posted the above images.
Never too old to learn new things.
