Backing up photos 2 ways - iCloud and/or google ...

Ive tried searching for a response to my questions. No look solar.

I have a iPhone X ... a MacBook ... & iPad Pro 11 inch, Im also getting the iWatch over the next few days.

As I'm sure you can imagine i have collected a fair few photos on my iPhone mostly around 1000 to be precise

What I want to do is upload the photos from my phone to iCloud and then delete them from my phone - i don't want to loose the photos i just want them to be secure on the cloud ??

im doing something wrong as it says they will be removed in 18 days (in the cloud )...

Ive used google to back up my pictures the ones from my phone i just don't understand how it works. Where are they floating around cyber space.

If someone could tell me the best way to back up photos and what settings have to be what way ... I will be forever grateful.

I'd like to add that no matter which online backup you use there is no better way to ensure that everything you have stored over time is safe from errors or bugs is to have a local bootable backup of you computer.
Assuming you backup your photos to your MacBook Pro by syncing your portable devices to it then a Time Machine backup of your MBP to an external HD or even better a bootable clone using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper (both of which offer free fully functional 30 day trials) is the most foolproof manner I can reccomend.
I have "My Photo Stream" switched on in iCloud preferences on MBP and iPhone so all of my photos are shared over both devices. I also use Google Photos because it's free but if all else were to fail or if I made a mistake I can be certain everything is backed up on my CCC clone.
Really you can't have too many backups but if I was to choose just one it would be the clone.

I personally never considered iCloud or any of the other online services like that as true backups.
And neither does Apple (from the first link that was posted):

When you turn on iCloud Photos, your photos and videos automatically upload to iCloud. They're not duplicated in your iCloud backup, so you should keep backup copies of your library. You can download your photos and videos from iCloud.com to your computer and store them as a separate library, transfer them to another computer with Image Capture or Photos, or store them on a separate drive.

iCloud and services are great if you want to have access to your pictures (and files) from various devices, but there is nothing "magical" about it - storing it in the "cloud" is just another fancy term for saying that the data is stored on the company's servers (Apple or whoever).
The pictures or data probably won't disappear, but there is really no incentive for the company to secure that data.
I remember years ago, Google lost a whole bunch of user gmail messages - their resonse basically was that it only affected a small number of users (isn't that always the party line) and there was no way to retrieve them - although I think a number of high profile customers did their messages retrieved.

In any case, any pictures or data I want to back up, I back up myself - either as a clone of my Mac as already suggested or simply just the pictures on a separate drive. And with the low cost of externals now-a-days, for anything important, at least two backups would be appropriate.

My response was solely directed at the question asked by the OP.

But, of course, as you pointed out, there is so much more to having a comprehensive BU strategy.
