    Slow Speed
May I assume that my Internet browsing, page loading and streaming have slowed noticeably in the last 48 hrs. because of all the high-volume shopping traffic that is going on this holiday weekend?

I'm just a techno-tenderfoot, but, all else being equal, is this possible?

    Thanks & Happy Thanksgiving.

    I doubt it.

    What I might do is:

Open Safari (actually, you didn't mention which Browser you use) - well open your Browser, clear your history whilst keeping website data, if on Safari > Develop > Empty Caches. Then reboot your Mac.

You could also get Onyx, well respected, free, software from here: Titanium Software | Operating system utilities for Mac - OnyX Be sure to download the version specific to your Operating System. Install, open, Click on Maintenance, use the defaults and Execute. The Mac will reboot automatically at the end of the process.

This cleans out all the scruff and caches etc.

A very useful app to be used maybe twice or thrice a year to clear away the debris of everyday use and/or when you have a problem such as yours.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, in Canada at least it depends how you connect to the net.

With the connection via cable there was always a bottle neck both because of the cable which was shared by many users and also insufficient bandwidth of the network if you used a third tier ISP.
With a direct fibre connection to the house (FTTH) or eben fibre to the node (FTTN) there is no bottle neck at the user side, so that part doesn't slow down with extra internet traffic.

But there is also the other end, the websites you are accessing - some of the sites I was accessing this morning were struggling with the traffic load. A web page would often only load partially.

You can certainly try Ian's suggestions, but for Thanksgiving people in the US, and Canada as well, go a bit nuts when they see the 80 and 90% discounts and websites do get overwhelmed.

My apologies to those who responded. I never received an e-mail update on this thread.

@IWT: I Clear my History every day, but I did not know that you also had to reboot. BTW, I don't know what "Develop" refers to in your post.

@krs: Thank you for your post.

SOLUTION: I called my cable provider, and they rebooted the modem. Everything seems to be working at normal speed again. I don't know how many times I have forgotten about rebooting the f-ing modem.

    Happy holidays.
