Great article Nick. I was particularly interested in Cloudflare’s new app 1.1.1.1 even though its not a true VPN yet. I have Express VPN on all my devices including a MiBox Android TV tuner which I use for Australian free to air TV content here in Indonesia. I understand it is just a DNS Resolver at the moment but I put it on my non cellular iPad just to try out. At the moment due to rioting and post election unrest in Jakarta. FB and FB Messenger as well as WhatsApp have been abysmally slow this morning but I can say that since installing “One4” ( can’t think how else to write it) all of the above have sped up noticeably.

Like Rod, I use Express VPN, although I also have a few months left on my subscription to PIA which I got from our Forums here about 2 years ago as a special offer at an incredibly good price.

In my personal usage, Express VPN is faster and has way more servers and great support. It is also based in the British Virgin Islands where there are no legal privacy barriers - as opposed to PIA which is US based and could, theoretically, be legally compelled to reveal users' data.

As a follower of Troy Hunt, I set up my DNS with Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 with 1.0.0.1 as my second choice some considerable time ago. Mainly for speed.

Anyhow, thanks for the link to that article, Nick. Very useful.

I have and still am using Google's public DNS 8.8.8.8 on my laptop but I have been reconsidering that of late. I do need a VPN though to keep up to date with news feeds and Australian media content but if Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1+Warp turns out to be a fully fledged VPN I'd definitely give it a go.

A couple of years ago a VPN called Tiger VPN had an offer for a lifetime license for maybe $35. Pretty sure on the cost. I grabbed it. It so far has not ever let me down. Glad I got it while it was still lifetime as it's not now.
