iPad connected to Home Theater to play iTunes (AppleTV)?
I hope this is the appropriate place for this question/advice.

I want to control my original iPad while it plays my iTunes music (from my MacBook) through my home theater receiver (via Apple TV). While I could sync all of the music TO the iPad, it seems that I should not have to do that with home sharing turned on. The idea is to connect my iPad to the receiver and play through the speakers that are connected there. I have include a quick diagram of how this is connected.

I can correctly play the iTunes music through the receiver but should I not be able to somehow use the apple TV to control (start/stop etc) via my Apple TV?

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Hutch

Connect your receiver to your Apple TV via an optical audio cable.

Install the Remote app from the iTunes store on the iPad. Add the home sharing library to the iPad remote app. Set the receiver to the optical audio for input and control the library from the iPad wirelessly.

This is similar to my setup although I also have an Airport Express that I use as my library portal. I still use the Apple TV connected to the receiver, but I choose the Airport as the shared library. The reason I do this is because when you use the Apple TV as an output from the iPad you can only control the stereo from that one device. Both my wife and I have iPhones and iPads and using the Airport express allows us to control the stereo from any device.

Thanks for this MacsWork.. I also have an Airport Express and my wife and I both have iPad and iPhones. That's a great solution and we will implement this as well as it makes perfect sense.
