Trouble installing CS6 on iMac 2019
Hi all, I recently bought a new iMac 27" which is running Mojave. I understand Mojave is compatible with Adobe CS6 and have been trying to install it. During the installation process, a window appeared asking me to shut down all apps including anything working in the background. It showed me a link to show me how to access Utilities and then close down anything still running. The Adobe window also showed me what was still running in the background. There were 4 things that needed to be closed down. All of these things happen to be part of Safari. I managed to close down 3 of them but one, stubbornly refuses to shut down, which has left me helpless as I cannot continue with the CS6 installation. When I have clicked continue, the Adobe window just reminds me that Safari is still running in the background. I have tried multiple times to force quit this app but it will not close. When I installed CS6 on my old Mac I never had any windows asking me to shut things down before so this is new to me.Screenshot 2020-02-09 at 00.49.38.pdf

My question is: Has anyone come across this issue and if so what have you done to resolve it?

Have you tried running your "activity monitor.app" (Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor.app) and shutting down all Safari processes that way?

If that doesn't seem to work for you, start your iMac in Safe Mode: Press and hold the Shift key as soon as you see the screen turn from dark to a dim light during the boot process. Keep holding down the shift key until you see the Apple appear.

Now try installing CS6 while in Safe Mode. Let us know.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I was using the Activity Monitor app to try and stop the Safari app, but with little success. I will do as you suggest and do a Safe mode install.

You should use Force Quit, under the Apple Logo in the menu bar.
Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

Thanks Ferrarr, I have been using Force Quit, but it makes no difference.

Hi chscag, I have done a Safe Mode install this morning and it had exactly the same outcome. The install stopped and asked me to close the safari extensions. I managed to close three of the four, but, again the 4th one refused to close after several attempts at Force quitting it. At one moment, the fourth one actually disappeared but then immediately reappeared. I am at a loss as to what to do.

Ok, I tried a second time, thinking perhaps I may have done something wrong, and heh presto, it worked and CS6 has fully installed.
Many thanks for you simple but very effective bit of advice.

I mistakenly checked auto update on my 6 month old Mac 27 and got stuck with Catalina. And of course... Adobe CS6 went south. I have since bought Affinity Photo, and I'm very slowly trying to learn the nuances of it but I need to get PS working again as I have projects that can't wait for the learning process. I tried using the crippled CS6 starting in terminal, and it sort of works, but it locks up too often. So I'm debating whether to reverse course, reinstall a prior operating system and reinstalling CS6. Now comes the big question... is there a easy to understand "How-To" on reformatting the SSD to a prior OS? Oddly enough, I installed/ran CS6 on Mojave and it ran with zero issues. Almost all my work is on a external 3TB USB Fantom Green Drive, but should I selectively save certain kinds of files from the SSD like fonts or whatever to the 3TB drive?

I know eventually I'll have to bite the bullet and update, but in the interim, I'll get a chance to learn more about Affinity Photo which I think can handle my needs. I simply refuse to pay a monthly fee for a few more bells and whistles... CS6 was more than adequate for my needs.

First.... Thanks for remembering your user name and password. As a long time member, welcome back.

Downgrading to Mojave after installing Catalina can be a real task. As you probably already know, you can't just install Mojave over the top of Catalina as the system won't allow it. And trying to find a good Mojave download might also be difficult. In the long haul, it might be easier to try to live with Affinity Photo and move your projects there instead of going the Adobe way. But, only you know best if that will work.

You may be able to run Mojave on your new iMac by using virtual machine software. We have a long time member who has a 2019 iMac which will only run Catalina, who has successfully installed Sierra in a virtual machine on his iMac. So I know it's possible.

    Keep us posted.

I came across this video on YouTube, wondered what the community experts think of it. I can't quite figure out if the fellow is suggesting that installing _must_ be done with an external SSD/HDD and whether Mojave (or High Sierra) would be thereafter running from the external drive, by-passing the internal HDD/SSD drive?

    YouTube

My internal 250 GB SSD has about 160 GB free, I store all my work on an external USB 2TB drive.
