    need to export a font
I've developed a transfer decal artwork using Open Office Draw and the font PortagoITC TT. My print/decal shop doesn't have that font or anything else close enough to it. He wanted me to try and export the font and send it to him. When I try that I get an empty file, I suspect there is a copyright issue. I can easily export Arial or others like that.

He then suggested that if I had Adobe Illustrator I could do the following:

Once it's in illistrator, go up to the tool bar, drag down the "Type" menu in the tool bar and click the "Creat Outlines" What that will do is change the text to shapes, so when we open the file, we won't actually need the font because as far as the computer knows it's not looking at a word, it's looking at shapes.
but I don't have Illustrator so that doesn't help.

Any other suggestions or if you know of a shop that makes transfer decals with that font that would work too?

    TIA.

do you get an empty file when you send it by email?

You should zip the TTF font first, this will make sure the mail server doesn't ignore the resource fork, where the font data might be - non mac systems never use resource forks for files, so that information is stripped out. Zipping it will protect the font - but the printer must also need to be using a mac to get the font to work.

alternatively you could open the font in Fontforge and re export it (generate font) as an open type font that will work on macs and PCs

Thanks, zipping the font file at least allowed me to attach a non-empty file to my email. We'll see what the print shop can do with it now.

My print shop was unable to open the file after I was able to send it in a zip format.

So now I've downloaded FontForge but it does not recognize any fonts in my /Library/Fonts folder using the Filter: All Fonts option.

As it is a free font, I can legally let you download this zip file, both TrueType and Open Type formats are in there, sounds like you are supplying a corrupt font or some sort of font cache file, so use one of these

Thanks for your effort but I can't even unzip that file on my Mac. I've gone ahead and sent it to my print shop to see if he has any better luck.

Even though I can't open the zip, my print shop can so we are good to go.

    Thanks again for your help.
