Below, we've rounded up everything you need to know to make shopping for Walmart Black Friday deals easier. Read on to see when Walmart's ad drops, when the sale really starts, and what kind of doorbusters you can expect.
When Will the Walmart Black Friday Ad Be Released?
Walmart tends to drop its Black Friday ad around two weeks before Thanksgiving. For the past three years, the ad has arrived between November 8 and November 10. Pretty reliable! However, Thanksgiving falls on November 28 this year, which puts the 2-week mark around November 14. So we might not see the ad drop until then.
Will Walmart Be Open on Thanksgiving?
Walmart hasn't announced its 2019 Thanksgiving hours yet, but going by past years, you can expect to be able to shop all day on Walmart.com. Black Friday in-store deals will likely start at 6 pm local time on Thanksgiving.
When Does Black Friday Start at Walmart?
We expect the megaretailer to release in-store doorbusters at 6 pm local time on Thanksgiving, but the Walmart Black Friday sale is likely to start online much earlier. Expect online Black Friday deals to become available on the night before Thanksgiving. "Black Friday" discounts will last until the end of Friday — although some may return for Cyber Monday.
Expect the Walmart Black Friday sale to begin in-store on Thanksgiving, and online the night before. We'll update this article with more details once Walmart announces specifics.
When Is the Best Time to Shop?
Thanksgiving will be the top day to shop the Walmart Black Friday sale. We expect a deluge of Walmart deals during all of Black Friday week, but for the past two years, we've listed the most Staff Pick deals on Thanksgiving — about 30% more (at least) than on Black Friday or the Wednesday before (the day the online sale starts). Thanksgiving has also been the best day for top-notch deals of all types, though by a smaller margin.
Doorbusters are only available while supplies last, so act quickly if there's an item you really want. On Thanksgiving 2018, Walmart offered free cookies and coffee to those waiting for in-store Black Friday deals, starting at 4 pm.
What's on Sale at Walmart on Black Friday?
Walmart is a retail giant, and they'll have the broad variety of deals you'd expect for Black Friday. Plus, most offers will be available online, as well. Expect must-have sales in the home and garden category — like the 2018 deal featuring an 8-quart Instant Pot for only $59. We also saw hot deals on furniture, tools, and craft supplies.
Look for deals on toys, video games, electronics, and furniture. In recent years, Walmart has established itself as a go-to place for gaming and toy deals, boasting more "best of the best" offers than Amazon during Black Friday week. Several of the retailer's hottest deals last year were for toys. For example, we saw a 900-piece LEGO Classic box for $20 and unusually strong discounts on Nintendo Switch titles.
Finally, don't miss this store's electronic deals. We expect aggressive deals on TVs, speakers, streaming media players, and more. In 2018, Walmart had one of the best deals on the Google Home Mini, bundling it with a Google Chromecast and a $15 Vudu credit for only $45.
What Will Be the Big Walmart Black Friday Doorbusters?
Walmart has a history of offering eye-catching doorbuster deals on TVs. In 2018, a couple of the best Walmart Black Friday TV deals included a TCL/Sharp 65" 4K Roku smart set for $398 and a Hisense 40" TV for only $99.

Also keep an eye on Walmart if you're looking to pick up a new-model phone. In 2017 and 2018, the store offered $300 gift cards with some of the latest Apple iPhones and Samsung devices, and last year it offered $400 gift cards with certain other models. Finding deals on recently released devices can be tough, so this is a rare opportunity that may be worth braving the in-store crowds.
Don't Dismiss In-Store Pickup
While Walmart doesn't have the loyalty programs other stores do, serious shoppers can still find ways to save. For example, selecting in-store pickup is a great way to dodge shipping costs. The store provides free 2-day shipping and NextDay delivery on orders over $35, but items under that amount incur a shipping charge. You can avoid that cost most of the time by opting for pickup where it's available. Pickup may even be a way to get your items faster, if they're available locally.
