Newbie HereI recently posted to ask a question about a certain place on the internet which offered certain Mac centric items for free. I always question "free" stuff and asked about that website here. I was told that this site was one of piracy and told to do what I want. The link was also removed. I wasn't exactly certain how to take this but as my question was answered I wanted to post here to say that I am grateful to know that my questioning of this site's offers was valid. I have never used anything pirated as I am a writer and photographer and have had to deal with copyright infringement more than once.
I'll make this short. I am happy that I got the information I requested and am feeling good about my finding your forum. As I'm just resurrecting my old 2006 1,1 Mac Pro I now know that I will be steered correctly while seeking information as to the best way to proceed. This Mac Pro was vital to me when I was selling digital images. Getting it up and running is a real big deal to me as I am as fond of this machine as I can be. Looking forward to working with members here. I have a lot to learn and am champing at the bit.

We welcome your participation. Several of our members and one of our Admins is very familiar with the original Mac Pro that you describe. We also have members who have been Mac aficionados from way back and have a wealth of knowledge to share.
Regards.
11-14-2019, 05:11 PM #3While a trusty machine, that Mac Pro is quite old and can be upgraded up to OS X Lion which you can purchase from Apple using this link. You will want to make sure that you find and stick with applications that work with Lion and not require newer versions of macOS.

The reason I asked is that I only "think" I have the Lion installer on it from way back when. This was the official upgrade from Apple. I won't know for sure until I get the remainder of those items delivered so I don't have to "patch" my way around to find what I have on it. Thank you for the link to Lion legitimate.

If you purchased the Mac when new, it probably came with Tiger or Leopard pre installed. You may have upgraded it to Snow Leopard, then Lion if you wanted to test it out. If you did, you should see it in your Mac OS X App Store Purchased section. Then you can download it again if you need to.
Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard came on discs, Lion was download only.

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

Not forgetting that the Mac App Store was launched on January 6, 2011, as part of the free Mac OS X 10.6.6 update for all then-current Snow Leopard users.

That's one of my top 3 or 4 Macs of all time. It was a great machine for me until it finally croaked. I can see why you would want to keep it running as long as possible.

Hey Charlie,
How about we work a trade? I'll give up all the Stetson's I'm currently owed plus rights to any future hats or other apparel in exchange for the purchase price of one Mac Pro. Is that your department or do I speak to Nick?“Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.”

LOL. Nick is saving his pennies for one of those new 16" MacBook Pro machines.
I just paid my Texas property taxes for 2019 and still owe a fortune for next year's homeowner insurance. Homeowner insurance is ridiculously priced here in Texas. Too many Tornadoes and bad weather.

I hope your budget s in a better state than mine.
I wonder if Nick would agree to shared custody of either of those machines.“Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.”
