08-19-2019, 09:32 PM #1What's With This Email Message From Mac-Forums?
I received the email message at the bottom of this post from the following email address:
webmaster@mac-forums.com
- I did not request to reset my password.
- Why is the greeting blank? (Dear ,)
- Why does it leave my username blank. (Your user name is: )
Is this a fake email or what?'

I have no idea why you received that password reset message. That particular message is one we send when a member is having difficulty with their password such as forgetting it. We never send that message out to a member arbitrarily but only when we are contacted first through our "Contact Us" messaging system.
08-20-2019, 12:34 AM #3Well, something's amiss. I think the lack of name and username might be a good hint.
My username and password are stored in both 1Password and Apple Keychain, so the likelihood of me not knowing them are pretty much nil.
Anyway, thanks for the reply and best of luck figuring out what happened!
08-20-2019, 12:19 PM #4I really don't know, but I'm wondering why an e-mail apparently from webmaster@mac-forums.com would say:
You have requested to reset your password on Apple iOS MacOS Help | Fix Mac iPhone iPad | Buying Tips | Mac-Forums.
PS: Is there anyway to Check All the Headers and confirm that it came from where you think it came from???

08-20-2019, 12:57 PM #5That's the forum name, that's why. Anyway, if you didn't request a password reset and the admin didn't trigger the email to be sent, the obvious reason is that someone else tried to login as you by trying to reset your password. This happens to me ALL the time with multiple forums, facebook, instagram and especially my GMail. All of these attempts are thwarted because I get the email and furthermore, half of these accounts have 2FA enabled.
So delete the email and move on. If you are interested and feeling unnerved, by all means change your password on this forum to something different.
There's no need for random speculation here.Last edited by Raz0rEdge; 08-20-2019 at 01:17 PM.
