I don't usually use Firefox...but I've been doing some use testing regarding Mac-Forums (logging in, logging out, remember login info, etc.). No problems thus far.

Well, I wish I could say the same, as it looks like I have been hit with this PITA auto log-in not working without clicking a bunch of boxes and telling Google Chrome to remember me, and the same with Safari which doesn't work for me properly anyway, and Firefox. And it all started the other day when Mac forums insisted I change my password but was apparently over a hundred and twenty days old.

I have now wasted too many hours trying to get this blankety-blank problems sorted out, and yes I have tried all the suggestions here but just wondering if any other members might have a suggestion I could try.

I can stay logged in as long as I don't quit any browser.

It used to work very well thank you very much in all three browsers until I had to make the password change, and now it's all goofed up in all three browsers so there's something in the Mac Forum settings that's completely FUBAR.

One fedup user here trying to get something to work that should be so basic.

I prefer using Mavericks and Google Chrome for my browser. And as I said, I had complete automatic login working just fine thank you with all three browsers, not even a click in any username box or anything was required, and the way it should be working now.

    Anyone got any constructive suggestions???

My next fix attempt will be to put my old password back in if it will let me as I have waited over a day since I was told to change it.

Maybe God knows why people insist on changing passwords as it makes no sense to the mathematical hackers logic.

EDIT: NOTE, I have no such login problems at any other forums site, the problem exists only at mac-forums.com, and only since the compulsury paswword change I was told I had to do.
Just like it screwed up the previous time I had to make the change but I can't recall how I got that fixed.

Is there any way to prevent the compulsory 120 day password change or make it much longer, like maybe 1,000,000 days would suit me.

I can't remember all the details Nick, but one of the passwords I used got me in so that I could post.

I went through so many &^%$#@f'n variables to get things working I cannot remember exactly which one I used to get the post to work.

I'm now logging in using the password I was sent by e-mail, but it took two bloody hours for it to even arrive after I had completed my request to change passwords.

I can now get in and see some of the listings and probably reply, but they are not complete depending whether I am logged in or not.

Here are two screen shots of what I see when selecting Quick Links > Today: The first is when I'm logged in, the second is when not logged in. As you can see, there are quite a few subjects missing when I'm logged in.

And PS: I now also heve to click my login and password if I quit Chrome between sessions and the Remember Me checked doesn't work. All a real PITA if you don't mind me saying so!!!

As I said before, no other problems with any other vBulletin forum list.

Anyway I have a more important job I must attend to this morning so I may not get back to this for a a while.

    Not logged in image:

PS: Even the uploade image has changed and some parts not working properly.

Gheese, all this hassle due to having to change a forum login password.

Somethings wrong somewhere, and BTW, it's screwed up if I use Safari or Firefox as well so I don't think it's me!!

Anyone or any admin know how I can get my old auto-login and everything else working properly as it it used to???

    Any suggestions would be welcome.

Now I see that I get logged out after little activity after about an hour at most.

Gheese, where are the settings??? Everything worked well untiil I was asked to change my password a day or so ago. Now it's a complete PITA to have to keep logging in and not even able to see all subjects when I am. Just bizarre!!!

Have you checked your keychain information?

Also, I checked your profile and settings in our data base panel and I can find nothing out of the ordinary. There is no time limit as far as I'm aware that you can be logged in to the forums. In other words, you should not be logged out after an hour.

I don't know if the problems are at your end or ours, but I can't find anything out of the ordinary with your profile or settings.

Thanks for checking Charlie, and this site's things seem to be working better and as expected for the last few hours and I have no idea as to why, as I have not done anything that might have changed anything, but I will keep tabs on things with a critical eye during the next days or so.

    Opps, I spoke too soon.

It seems that if any browser has been quit or been busy elsewhere, I now have to login when I come back to the mac-forums.com site.

Bummer!! I thought the problem might have self-healed itself, but it seems that is not the case.

I'm heading off to Europe tomorrow for 3 weeks.
Not sure how much time I would have there to even log into this forum, much less work on that issue.

I just have to keep logging in for now until maybe a Firefox update will resolve this.

I tried changing browsers but that means setting up user names and passwords on dozen and dozens of sites for that browser which I'm not really keen on doing right now.
So you arenít using a Mac or iPad/iOS with keychain enabled then.
That being the case it doesnít matter what browser you use. Your passwords are pulled back out of the keychain. And synced between all your devices.

I just got back from Europe and I see that Patrick seems to have the same problems that I reported ages ago.

I gave up trying to find the problem on my side; I already wasted enough time doing that.
I just log in again manually every time.
A bit of a pain but the forum members and the information provided here I find valuable enough to go through that log in process.

I use Firefox most time - just saw that there is a Firefox update which I have not installed yet, but I don't have high hopes that the FF update will fix anything related to this problem.

    As to:
So you aren’t using a Mac or iPad/iOS with keychain enabled then.
That being the case it doesn’t matter what browser you use. Your passwords are pulled back out of the keychain. And synced between all your devices.
I don't use an iPad or any iOS devices - just the Mac running El Capitan.
Firefox shows the user name and password properly stored - if I log in using the bookmark in my FF bookmarks toolbar, the auto login works just fine every time (at least has in the past, haven't tried it since I got back).
If I click on the link in the notification email, the auto login doesn't work the first time (I have to enter user name and password), but the auto login works after that from the link in the notification emails, even different ones ....for a period of time.
The time period seems to vary from what I remember about my last testing, so it's not just a straight timer somewhere.

Patrick said the problem for him happens with different browser which again ponits to some issue with the way this forum is set up.
One common element is the forced password change - I never had a problem since I joined until the password had to be changed.

    BINGO!!! DITTO!!!

The only other time I had a small problem was after a previous request to change the password, but that was fixed by going back and changing the new password back to the original password a day or so later. End of problem.

Unfortunately that fix has not worked so far this time.

I can't see that the problem is on my end, as the same problems exists with all three browsers, and only with the mac-forums.com site, and not with any other vBulletin Forums run sites that I use and automatically log into, just like they always have!!!

There seems to be a bit of an automatic working communication problem somewhere somehow between the vBulletin software and mac-forums.com site and my iMac, but damned if I can find out what it is.

I may try my iPad later today if and when I get a chance to see if there is any difference, or see if it works better.

I think I'll also try going back to using my old password if it will let me. As that sure is where the trouble started!!!

What I also find strange is that the auto login user name/password "sticks" for a while.
I had to manually log in again just now, but my last post was several hours ago - it used to be that the auto login worked if I received a forum notification email within an hour or so.

    Same here.

It seems that I got logged out which I did not do after maybe 1/2 - 1 hour of direct activity at the mac-fouums site.

All the same and similar problems seem to be posted at the vBulletin site but I haven't found a prober solution.

And I used to be pretty good at fixing many Mac/software problems but this one is a PITA stubborn one and I think partly or mainly beyond my control!!!

BTW: How many other members are having the same problems with this site???

Things with this issue have become worse for me since I returned from vacation.

Auto login used to work for me when I selected the bookmark in the FF bookmark bar - no more.
Now I have to manually type in user name and password there as well.

For some reason I can't post my much longer solution here, and it's to do with cookies and their various settings is what I discovered.

Trying to post my fix here...

The problem seems to be within the cookies and their lack of them getting updated or enabled and especially after a forced password change.
