Having a problem with the forum. Doesn't happen every time but many times when I log in and then go to write a message when I try and save the message it tells me I am not logged in and I have to log in again in order to save the message. Ideas ?

What macOS and browser are you using? Have you changed any Preferences settings?

Am using MacBook Pro listed below running 10.14.2 and Safari for browser. Not having this problem on any other website I go to on this system, only here.

As Bob asked, have you changed any settings in Safari, especially cache/cookie settings? Also, are you checking the "Remember Me" box when signing in?

I agree with all the others.

My practice is to Log In, always click "Remember Me", post etc, and never Log Out. So it's always there the minute I Click on the Mac Forums bookmark which I keep as a favourite in Safari. (This is in iOS as well as macOS).

But if you clean out your History without remembering to Hold Down the Option key, thereby choosing "Clear History and Keep Website Data"; or if you use any privacy apps that clears out your cookies or caches, then Mac Forums doesn't recognise you the next time and you have to Log In again with Username and PW.

Have made no changes to Safari settings...have not been clicking on the remember me but my password is saved so when I click on password it puts it in.

And James clearing History will also cancel login memories. Not only for this site but all.
Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Thanks for the reminder Harry, like after running Onyx.app that seems to get mentioned or recommended here so often to fix problems. And then needs to be reset again and remembered.

That's your problem right there, I bet. The "remember me" is not for remembering your username and password, but to prevent you from automatically being logged out after a certain amount of time. Of course, as others have said, clearing your history will undo this, but it won't happen automatically.

I delete cookies and history quite often but this is the only website or forum I go on that I have this problem...

Guess I will start doing that and see if it cures the problem, thanks for the hint...

If you open your Keychain Access.app (Utilities folder), there should be an entry for "mac-forums" (no quotes, and you can search for using the search space) that your Mac would normally use to login to the Forum. If it's not there, then it wasn't saved or something else is possibly wrong.

That's true, Patrick, but what James wants is to avoid having to log in at all, just go to the site and have it know that it's him. And that is done by the checkbox. As I recall, that used to then put a cookie on your system that hald information for the site and you, but the technology may have moved on from that. And if it is the cookie, that's why cleaning out Safari history forces a login again, and if you don't check the box, no cookie, so you keep being asked for it. Using keychain is certainly easy to do the login, but, again, I think what James wants is to avoid that login altogether. I only had to check the box once, and now the site knows when I am there.
