Industry standard is the SM58, its a good tough dynamic microphone.

this is a very popular choice and requires no amps or anything - http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1810&brandID=2

a lot of musicians and podcasters seem to use it.

Most good condesors require phantom power. The Audio Technica AT2020 is a great mic for $100 and does some great recording with acoustics. But, it requires a pre amp.

there are a few phantom power mics out there that have the ability to stick a battery or two in them, giving them a phantom power effect without utilizing phantom power from a mixer or preamp. i would recommend at least getting some sort of interface, as it will offer wayyyy more control of your input signal.
