hey, my name is alex and Im from lawrence KS and go to school full time at KU. Im currently a PC user, but have been doing some research and looking into the Mac world.

I currently have 2 PCs that do all of my must do stuff :) but I was looking into buying a cheap mac to get my feet wet with the new system, before layin down 2 grand on a new one.

What would a good price to pay for an Apple G4 tower OSX, 46 gig HD, 450 MHZ, 256 ram, DVD burner?

I know its slow.. but hes wanting to trade for a PS2 so im thinkin its the one!

Thanks a lot, im thorughly enjoying reading through this forum!

I think a PS2 would be a fair trade. What version of OS X does it have on it? I would recommend at least making sure you get 10.3 aka Panther.

I agree, a good trade. It will get you started in the world of OSX and the Mac. You can upgrade it a bit too for better performance till you can get a newer Mac down the line if you find you like OSX. I have a feeling you will.
At least upgrade the RAM. That is the G4 Sawtooth and can go as high as 2GB. 4 Slots each will take 512Meg Dimms. I have the 500Mhz version of that and it got me by quite nicely till I was able to get a new Mac.

yah it's a good trade... I agree about the RAM... definitely put more in over 512Mbs as it will make OS X run faster. Have fun

Do macs utilize the ram well? I have 2 gigs of ram on my PC laptop but the slow(er) processor speed doesn't really let the ram shine. That was my biggest regret of buying my laptop, upgraded ram rather than processor speed and haven't been very pleased.

My mini flys with 2 gigs on RAM. I never even notice slowness in illustrator.
