View Full Version : Tranferring photos

I have been downloading photos from my camera and mobile phone to a folder I created on my desktop. I then transfer the photos to a travel drive for printing at the local CVS printer Kiosk. Today I opened the (read/write)travel drive which had OLD photos installed on it in and selected all of the old photos and moved them to the trash and then tried to install the NEW photos to the travel drive after I verified the travel drive was empty. I keep getting a message that there is not enough room to install ANY photos to the travel drive. I removed the travel drive and reinstalled it and tried again and got the same response. I am a recent convert from Windows to Mac and I am using an IMAC running OSX El Capitan version 10.11.6 with a 3.1 GH Intel Core I5 with 8 GB memory and Intel Iris pro graphics. I am certain it is something I did from my holdover days from Windows but I cannot figure this out. Any simple instructions would be appreciated.

Once you've moved the images to the trash, be sure to empty the trash to actually delete the files from the drive. Just moving to the trash means that it won't be visible on Finder, but isn't really deleted.

To add a little explanation to Ashwin's excellent advice:

In the Mac world, Trash "belongs" to each individual External Hard Drive (EHD) or Flash Drive.

When you delete files or any sort of data from a mounted EHD, it goes into Trash. If you then ejected the EHD, the Trash would be empty (assuming none from your Mac was there before). Re-mount your EHD, and the Trash once again shows the deleted material.

So, the message is - delete the Trash of any EHD or Flash Drive whilst it is mounted. Then eject it or do with it as you wish.

In your case, remount your "travel drive", empty Trash and you're ready to go with adding your new photos.

(No offence, Ashwin, just hopefully helping the OP to understand the background).
