View Full Version : Question Regarding iMacs and the Final Cut Studio

I'm looking into upgrading my computer and I may require some advice from any Mac experts out there.

I currently have a five year old G5 PowerPC desktop (basically, an old Mac Pro) and I'm thinking of switching to an iMac (for numerous reasons, such as budget and space). However, there is one issue that's keeping me from handing my money over to Apple and that's regarding the software I currently use. I do a small amount of video editing (though my main profession is as an illustrator) using the original Final Cut Studio from 2005/2006. The actual editing work isn't that taxing, mostly six minute training videos and the like, though there is the occasional project that is 'Motion'-heavy (e.g. green screen filming, etc.) and requires a bit of rendering (obviously, all these video projects are kept on external hard-drives).

Would an iMac be able to handle that kind of workload, or should I fork out the extra cash on a Mac Pro?

I have the lowest-end 21.5" iMac and i run FCE 4 easily. It may take longer to render than a higher-end computer, but it works well enough for me!
