How to show slideshow in order
I've carefully curated a slide show of two recent 'bucket-list' cruises that we have taken and sorted the images in date order irrespective of their source (iPhone, iPad or camera). I now want to display them on my tv via Apple TV but they only show in a random sequence which is completely useless. I've tried renumbering them in the order that i want them to appear in their own directory on my iMac and edited the created dates to be identical. Still no joy. Surely this cannot be a 'feature' of apple tv. Showing travel phones out of sequence is a nonsense. Anyone got any idea how to fix?

I can't believe how such a simple request can have been ovelooked, and for so long.

A goggle search provides some suggestions on:
How to show slideshow in order
Mac How to show slideshow in order - Google Search

But matbe the best is the article by Glenn Fleishman who shares your frustration:
How to control the order of images in a Photos for Mac slideshow
How to control the order of images in a Photos for Mac slideshow | Macworld

    Gheese, what was Apple thinking...???

BTW: I didn't notice a plethora of replies and suggestions which also struck me as a bit odd.

Hopefully Glenn Fleishman's suggestion will provide you with some help.

PS: I hope you enjoyed your cruises.

Patrick - Thanks. So previously I was sharing a specific folder on my iMac with my Apple TV and other than the sort order it was working fine. I thought I'd try to share a album from Photos so I imported 60 images as a trial. I found that the carefully numbered images did not transfer over in filename sequence so I gave each a matching title. So far so good. Images are now in order in a folder in Photos. However, when I tried to link to these from Apple TV I was told to activate Home Sharing (which was on and working last week). I opened iTunes and sure enough Home Sharing was off (!). This is where the real fun begins. I enter my Apple ID and password only to get the message "Home Sharing could not be activated because this computer is not authorised for the Apple ID "*******@*****". Would you like to authorise now?" I click 'Authorise' button which has no effect whatsoever.

Can you help to resolve this?. Nothing has changed since sharing worked - my Apple TV has not ben switched on even, I have not been into iTunes until trying to set Sharing on again and no updates have been made. I have been into my iCloud settings and my iMac is listed as a device in settings.

Sorry Sawday, no I can't really help but I think this is referred to as "The New Apple OS" where the old adage "It Just Works" has been killed off and burried and one now just hollers out the loudest aggrivated scream you can manage.

I guess maybe try doing a google search for a tutotial that might guide you in the right direction for your setup.

I would think get it to work on your Mac in the first place, and then let the Apple TV take over using airplay or whatever name they call it.

I would have thought your original method should have worked, but apparently not.

Sorry I can't help more and good luck.

    EDIT:
    Try here:
mac How to create slideshow in order
mac How to create slideshow in order - Google Search

    And this hit looks good:
    Create and work with slideshows
Create and work with slideshows in Photos on Mac - Apple Support

And it looks like some methods can change slightly depending on the macOS version being used.

Have you restarted your computer? Sometimes simple things help.

@Sawday Were you having internet issues when you tried to re-enable Home Sharing?

I tried using Airplay/Home sharing to an Apple TV 3 the other day to share some video from our Mac to an Apple TV the other day. Our internet was down at the time and it seemed this caused the process to fail even though both devices were on the same network. It seems from something I read that without an active internet connection the process tries to use Bluetooth which routinely fails if any significant amount of data is being passed.

That wouldn't explain the inability to put things in order but I did get some sort of Home Sharing error.

No, no internet problem and when I tried again just now I get a message telling me my Apple ID is incorrect rather tan the previous message. I don't want to change my AppleID but I note that the Sharing error message gives me an option to create an AppleID. Can I have two AppleIDs - one for Home Sharing/Apple TV and one for everything else?

You could have two Apple IDs. In fact, I have two myself but it can cause confusion. For example, I had originally intended to do as you propose using one for purchases from Apple and the other for everything else. Somewhere along the way I was logged into the second account when I downloaded several pics of software. Now those items show as attached to the second account. Updates for those items don't always show up unless I am logged into that account.

I've gotten that error a time or two myself but offhand I don't remember the fix I used.

Just curious, but can Apple be used to get multiple Apple IDs merged to one and sales sorted out etc. and does it work properly for those who Have tried??

It sounds like it might be worthwhile, at least trying to see what they can do, especially with with a couple of non-working IDs not working properly.

Apple has a policy against merging Apple IDs. In other words, they won't do it because of security reasons. Once you create another Apple ID, you'll need to live with it and the problems it can cause.

I thought that was the case but I wasn't totally sure, so thanks for the info and confirmation Charlie.

I could easily imagine how easy it could be to get into a confusing multiple Apple ID mess, and not enjoyable to deal with.
