Question G4 Damaged screen... replacement options?
Hi all I have been given a powerbook G4 Laptop, everything works except the screen which is damaged/ cracked, the LCD looks like an ink splodge. Other than the screen the system is in mint condition.

which screens can I replace this with?

The reason I ask is I have seen some screens for the G3 with the same res and size but they are considerably cheaper than the G4 screens.

    The screen is 12in

    Can I fit a G3 screen to this G4.

    regards Lee

    Lee-

There is only one screen that will work with all of the 12" iBook G3's, G4's and 12" PowerBooks. If you can still find it (they are an End of Life product, no longer manufactured), the model # is LP121X04-C2. Also LP121X04-C2K2 works as well. We only sell the LCD installed (including round trip shipping), so if you're looking for the LCD panel by itself and want to attempt your own installation try eBay for the best selection.

Hi thanks for the reply, much appreciated, I live in the UK and I think it would be uneconomical for me to send it to the USA and back.

I am pretty technically minded so I was thinking of self installation. At the moment I run the laptop via a monitor and I really like the OS and the software, I've always been PC oriented. I have, of late, been getting more and more Mac's to look at, I work in I.T. so I wanted to get this laptop running so I could be better placed to help people with Mac's

You could PM me a Price if you like but I think it will be prohibitive.

    regards Lee

LP121X04-C2 is cross compatible with IAXG01B, so both will work for you. IAXG01B will be easier to find, check on eBay.

As always ebay, has come up with the goods; well maybe, I have 2 LCD screens on route to me, they have cost me £30 delivered and one is on its way from Japan no less. As to whether they will work is quite another matter lol!

Part of the fun for me is taking things apart; i'm a natural born dismantler lol! getting them back together and still working is not so easy for me haha!

The benefits will far outweigh the minimum outlay if i get this gorgeous little lappy working. My mate has just taken delivery of a MAC Pro with leopard installed and very swish it is too. I was playing with it yesterday trying to get it to talk nicely with XP. was still abit flaky but we got files and forth.

The screen is now installed and working well, i had to extend the wires slightly but that wasn't hard. the screen is excellent no dead pixels and very clear.

    Here it is installed.

This is the old one held in front of my desktop screen.

Thanks for the help and advice.

    regards Lee
