After the install, if you do a true nuke and pave, then when it boots for the first time you will be offered a chance to migrate data. Take that opportunity and Migration Assistant will put everything back for you, including your login/password for your account. If you don't take that opportunity and use MA later on, it will NOT migrate to YOUR account, but create a new one and migrate to there.

Some applications don't migrate well. Microsoft Office and anything Adobe are in that category. They will need, usually, to be deregistered and re-registered.

Thanks for the info! So will I use migration assistant and migrate from my external hard drive?

MA can be pointed to any backup or clone. So if your backup is on the external drive, then yes, that would be where you point MA when asked.
