Should this hardware piece look like this?
    Hello,

In the image you can see the hardware part of the battery (I think) and it looks weird with all the white things. Is this normal, because the Mac was recently bought.

Would be interesting to know what this is.

    Thanks for your help, guys!

    Are you experiencing any issues?

Also...if you bought it recently...is it new or used (this wasn't mentioned)?

If used...do you have options to return it if this was an issue? if you don't have return options...not much you can do if it is an issue.

If you're experiencing no issues...and have no return options (if used)...then you just got to use it & not too concerned about it.

Or try Googling the part # for some info.

The white dabs could be some sort of "tamper-proofing".

They sure look like dabs of white paint to me, especially when the posted image is enlarged:

Sorry folks.... but that looks like it might be corrosion or leftover from a spill of some sort. Apple does not use white paint on solder tabs or anywhere else.

Hmmm... that's quite an assumption Charlie, that Apple had been messing about inside there.

I never said Apple had gotten into the machine. But however you interpret the picture, it's definitely not tamper paste or solder flux. To me it appears to be some sort of leftover from a spill or possibly corrosion.

Of course if someone else has been into the machine to do repairs, all bets are off. In my years of electronic repair, I've seen some pretty botched up repairs that had been made by less than competent repair places.

All valid questions and we'll probably never get to know the answers I'd say.

And the why open it at all question is quite intriguing.
