It sounds like the drive in your MBA has gone south. Which year and model MBA do you have? An "a1466" doesn't tell us anything as that can refer to many years of models.
It's likely your MBA has a SSD which may or may not be soldered to the logic board. On some models, the SSD can be swapped out for a new one. In any event, try to boot your MBA from an external source: USB, Flash Drive, etc.
Also, do you have a backup?

08-15-2019, 04:07 PM #4You may be able to pick out which of the MacBook Air a1466 models yours might happen to be from the list here:
Lookup Mac Specs By Serial Number, Order, Model & EMC Number, Model ID @ EveryMac.com
What exactly is the USB thing you are trying to boot from???
And I'm wondering what the installers voice is that you are hearing.???
I sure hope it's nothing like the old Albert in a tobacco can calling to be let out.

That model has a SSD that’s able to be removed and replaced. Check with OWC for replacement.

I agree with Patrick about the logic board that could be the problem. I don't believe your model MBA uses a cable to attach the SSD to the logic board. Isn't it a plug in blade type SSD? You can lookup the info and maybe some troubleshooting tips at iFixit: The Free Repair Manual.

Try turning your computer on while connected to an external monitor/TV via HDMI and see if it does anything.

Are you sure you are trying to boot into safe mode correctly?

The method of booting into Safe Mode depends, to some extent on the Mac model.
If you have a Mac with a chime, reboot the Mac and immediately after you hear the chime, press and hold down the Shift key until the Apple logo appears. It will take longer to boot into Safe Mode.
If you have a silent Mac, then things are trickier. Reboot and very carefully watch the computer screen. When it goes from black to dark grey, press and hold the Shift key as above.
If, however, you have a wired keyboard or if you attach your magic, wireless keyboard to the Mac via USB - this makes the wireless keyboard become wired - then you can hold down the Shift key right from the beginning of the reboot.
To get out of Safe Mode, simply reboot in the normal way.
