    A primer on Bluetooth please
I just bought a cheap ($25) pair of Bluetooth headphones to listen to audiobooks while exercising and my iPhone SE paired with it immediately. No issues there, but I'd like to occasionally use the headphones with my late 2012 MBP, but the laptop will not recognize the phones no matter what I've tried. Phone and MBP are up to date on OS. The MPB and iPhone connected immediately as well. Anything else I can try?

Try removing the headphones from your phone and seeing if the MBP will pick it up. Headphones can definitely only be connected to one device at a time, but they should allow themselves to be paired with multiple devices.

You, RazOrEdge, are a genius. I dumped the phones from my iPhone and the MBP "found" them right away, and with a few required sound setting changes I've never made before I could listen to laptop sound. Problem solved.

I encountered this problem the first time I tried to pair earbuds with m iMac. It took me a while to figure out that some Bluetooth earbuds can pair with two devices simultaneously but many (especially cheaper ones can't).

I've also noticed that if you pair with two devices simultaneously certain tasks seem to take precedence. Phone calls, for example, seem tp take precedence over whatever may be happening on my iMac. I may have to do further testing to see if I'm right there.

Sweet, glad it worked. As Sly mentioned, each headphone behaves differently and that seems to vary by price. To avoid conflicts in general, I try to keep my Bluetooth devices paired only to a single other device. So my headphones are paired just with my MBP. When I travel and if I forget the right cables, I'll pair the headphones with my iPhone or iPad, but after that I'll remove the pairing. My Bluetooth speakers are paired only with my iPod Nano and so on.
