MacBook Air black screens after display assembly repair - any ideas or suggestions?
So I just repaired my MBA (11" Early 2015 Macbook Air A1465) with a display assembly that I bought off ebay. I followed the ifixit guides and everything went pretty smoothly.

I turned it on and it booted up fine with the display working perfectly. But after around 2 mins of usage the screen and the keyboard backlight went dark. I’ve then tried to power cycle it, reset SMC, PRAM etc and it won’t boot up again. I can hear the fan occasionally spinning though.

The weird part is I then stripped it down and put it together again to ensure all connectors are in properly. Once again it booted for 2 mins and then black all over again and won’t boot. It seems somehow taking it apart lets me boot it for mins again! This is all connected to connected to power outlet (apart from the repair of course). When it boots it shows the battery is at 100%.

I originally replaced the display because it was cracked.

If anyone has any ideas here it would be very helpful, thanks!

Welcome to mac-forums, but you do have rather a strange problem.

I don't know if it'll help with a solution, but you might want to add the specs of your MacBook Air and the OS it's running.

Is this problem happening while the MBA is connected to external power or just on battery power???

If the latter, is the battery properly charged???

What was wrong with the display in the first place that it needed replacing???

OK, but is the battery charged??

And you might want to try booting up in safe boot mode in chase there's some sort of third-party software conflict happening.

Just to confirm, was the display you purchased the complete display assembly as supplied by Apple, casing, hinges cables etc, or just the LCD? If the complete assembly you can balance the MBA with the display open and the display data connector at the top, disconnect the display (leave the camera and antenna cables connected), then carefully lay the old cracked display assembly against the MBA and connect its data cable to the logic board socket. Power on and and wait to see if you still have the same issue. If you do its possible a fault was introduced during the repair. If the screen remains active then you have a DOA display. Remember to disconnect the battery when disconnecting the display, and if possible wear an ESD wrist strap. Let us know how you got on.
