How to activate ''hey siri'' on the new macbook pro 13 inch 2018 with touchbar?
I can only activate siri if i press on the siri button top right on the touchbar. However, i want it to respond to my voice without pressing anything.
The new macbook pro should have this included but i can't seem to find out how to set it up. Nothing shows up under siri preferences either.
All help will be appreciated a lot. Thanks.

Have you looked in System Preferences > Siri? Check "Enable Ask Siri".

Try opening System Preferences then open the Siri Preference pane. Is "Ask Siri" enabled? Not sure if that is a requiremtnt or not. Then,
check the Sound preference pane and make sure the sound input is set to the internal microphone. Now try saying "Hey Siri"

Unfortunately, I can't test this. Unless you want to loan me that snazzy piece of gear. Promise I'll take good care of it.

I think I read somewhere that that option is accessed in the Assistance pref pane and I think under the Dictation option.

    Try a google search maybe.

    EDIT:
Here's an older method that might do what you want, unless Apple disabled that feature: ;-(

Or maybe they actually made it easier with that brand new Mac. That would be nice eh???

The only Siri-related optionn I see in the Accessibility preference pane is one involving Type to Siri. Thisi option allows people to type requests to Siri rather than speaking them. That's the opposite of what the OP want -- unless I am seriously misunderstanding something.

You're correct. I simply want to say ''hey siri'' out loud, and have it respond to me without touching a single button. The same way it works on the iphone. My mac should have the ability but i can't seem to figure it out.

This is all the siri preferences shows. https://imgur.com/a/mY7yUNP

@casherr I have seen two different articles now that mention enabling "Hey Siri" during the setup process for the computer. During that process you are asked to repeat a few phrases. I havent found a way yet to enable it after that process has run.

Can you try a quick experiment? Create a completely new user account just to see if you get through the Hey Siri setup procedure. If I can't find a way to trigger that process on your current account we might be able to recreate your account with the right settings.

    Say ”Hey Siri.”
This feature is available only on MacBook Pro models introduced in 2018, and only when the computer lid is open.

Not sure if that wll help but that is straight from Apple.

I was wondering the same thing but it would seem so from the OP's subject:
How to activate ''hey siri'' on the new macbook pro 13 inch 2018 with touchbar?
But some articles say using the "Hey Seri" voice command needs the new 2018 MBPro T2 chip for it to work, yet how come many have been able to get it to work since 2016???:

    and lots more hits here:

BTW: For the OP, is the MBPro microphone enabled for input properly??

If that model is able to use the new feature, why would Apple seemingly hide the feature or how to enable it. But maybe the Help menu may have a suggestion and provide some help.

I hope Apple hasn't removed THAT help feature!!!

    BTW:
Her's how to check that MBPro:

You can try activating "Hey Siri" by opening System Preferences on your computer, then open the Siri Preference pane and enabled "Ask Siri". Another way to connect to Ask Siri, is by connecting a microphone on Your Mac for Siri to hear you then you can choose your microphone from the Mic Input menu of Siri preferences. I hope this info may help you.

If you read those articles, what they are suggesting is that you set up a key combo to invoke Siri, then in the Accessibility Menu set the word "Hey" to trigger that key combo. That's a workaround for computers that don't have the T2 chip. So you statement that "many have been able to get it to work" is not technically correct. They didn't get it to work, they found a workaround. And a clumsy one at that.

When i press the siri button and speak commands, it works perfectly and my microphone also works on skype calls so i assume everything is working properly.

Hey Jake, one does what one does when one has to or wants to.

But the OP shouldn't need to use any hack — IF he was sold the latest MBPro with the new chip in it. But they can always check using the suggestion I posted in #9, and that would confirm the latest model — or not!!!

If it is, why is it such a hassle for them to enable or get the ''hey siri'' voice command working???

And hey, why is it treated as such a "new feature" as I can recall my now quite adult son when he was in grade school telling a Mac beige tower to startup when voice commands first appeared with some Macs at a VMUG meeting.

I guess Siri can now reply to more questions or commands which is a nice improvement.

Now, if only the OP can get her to wakeup and work!!!

And maybe something here may help, and no "hacks" used:

That model should say the model on the label on the bottom as well:
    Model: MR9Q2LL/A

Small update: Turns out the store accidentally sent me the 2017 version instead. So today i went back and traded it in for the proper 2018 one. One this one ''hey siri'' voice command does work without any hassle and the option also shows in the siri preferences.

Many thanks Patrick for pointing it out with the model number!

Good observant catch casherrr, and nice that you finally got the model you thought you were buying!!!

At least some others may now know how to "hack" their older model to get some form of "Hey Siri" working.
