Got a heck of a deal on a Powerbook G4 this past weekend. It's a 12" Powerbook G4, 1.5ghz cpu, running OS 10.5.8. Got it for $60 bucks!!! Fully operational...no problems. It's in absolute immaculate condition...could have come out of the box yesterday!

Anyone that has owned any of the aluminum Powerbooks or MacBook Pros knows that these things can get dented, dinged, scratched, or nicked very very easily...so getting a computer from 2005 (7 years old)...without any cosmetic issues is pretty darn remarkable!!!

I really love these 12" Powerbooks (they're actually smaller than the 13" MacBooks)...and great for traveling. This model is the fastest 12" Powerbook G4 model Apple made.

I do have another one of these 12" Powerbooks....but it's sort of a "Franken-Computer" since:

    - I had to use parts from about three different computers to get it 100% operational
    - it looks like it came from a "robot-wars" contest
    - it's all banged up (dents & scratches)
    - the display latch doesn't work!
    - there's a lot of backlight "bleed-thru" at the bottom of the display bezel

Believe it or not...the computer also came with a nice computer shoulder bag, the power adapter is in great shape (no loose ends), and an older style Apple bluetooth mouse (with original box)...all for $60 bucks!!!

A proud new member to the collection!

    Very nice!

For $60 I say you got a tremendous deal.
I've always wanted to be smart, handsome and modest. But, I guess I'll have to be satisfied with two out of three . . .

Thanks. Technically speaking...Mac2Sell.net says that it's worth $160 bucks...but then add in the carrying case & bluetooth mouse that was included.

Plus the intangible value of the almost perfect cosmetic condition...especially for a 7 year-old aluminum Powerbook! Almost anything on e-Bay for this same model would have at least 1 dent, 1 nick, or 1 scratch...and probably multiple.

It's so pretty I hate to use it!

The "Mac House" is expanding....... yet again!

BTW Nick, that machine is what we used to call a "cherry" (to borrow the term from car purchases)

    Yes it is...yes it is!

Lately I've been "acquiring" laptops (just dumb luck)...except for the 20" iMac I got for free about a month ago. So at least the laptops take up less space!

Yes sir...I know what you mean...it's a "cherry"!

    Thanks,

    - Nick

p.s. I'm sure you must have heard (in the car collecting world)...of a "20 footer". Not sure how this terminology would work with a used computer. Maybe call it a "1 footer"! Ha ha!

And what does this bring your family up to now in terms of size?

I have a rough idea...but I think that I'm afraid to admit that in public!

But talking "size"...it's still all in one room!

If you don't come up with a number, I'll be forced to come up with one and it might be north of 30.

The only thing coming out of my mouth, will be analogous to the sound of one hand clapping!

It would be 220. Nice at 2 feet and 20 mph for cars.

The last number he would admit to before he clammed up on us was already North of thirty.
It's anybody's guess now, but I would say pushing half a hundred.

    Hmm, taking on bets! Haha.

Whatever the value is, it eclipses my computer count (a whopping 2 and one isn't a Mac). Actually, I have 3 Linux devices in my place...

I clammed up ages ago as I got tired of being attacked every time I mentioned I collected old systems. Some of my macs are gone. Not as interested in some older macs as I once was.

That 12" PB though is a great computer. If one came my way I would grab it.

I/we have a grand total of 4. Three Macs and an old Gateway Laptop running Ubuntu Linux.
