Question Apple Hardware Test - navigating with keyboard to start Extended Testing
Wasn't sure if this should be in the Mac OS or Hardware section...

I have a Mid-2011 iMac that's having a few issues (when booting/restarting will sometimes hang at the grey screen and unexpected shut downs during use). I'm running the Test on Apple Hardware Test (AHT How to use Apple Hardware Test on your Mac – Apple Support Version 3A222 accessed via D key on start up). My (non-Apple) mouse won't navigate the AHT as it only moves on the X-axis for unknown reason so I only have the Apple keyboard available for navigation but I can't figure out what key combination will commence the 'Perform extended testing' process?

    So far I've found:
The 'T' key commences the Test procedure,
'Tab' scrolls through the three screen tabs
Up and down keys move through the Hardware Profile tabs sections

I've just used holding down the power button for 10 seconds to shut down as I can't figure out how to do the 'Restart' or 'Shut Down' buttons either.

Is that a wireless or BT mouse? If it is, that's likely the problem. It's always a good idea to keep a wired (USB) mouse on hand as a backup. You're not going to able to do much with the AHT without a wired USB mouse or an Apple BT mouse properly paired.

Nope, it is a wired (USB) Evoluent brand ( Evoluent VerticalMouse Vertical Mouse ergonomic mouse ergonomic computer mouse carpal tunnel syndrome repetitive stress disorder RSI ).

I think I've found my issue anyhow. One of the 4 8GB RAM modules is failing the AHT when fitted. The other three pass when fitted.

Okay, thanks. Does it come with drivers? Since it's USB, I would have thought it would work to do a hardware test.

Yes, Download but it works perfectly by default when plugged into a Mac. The drivers are an optional extra in order to customise the additional buttons through System Preferences if desired.
