Wasn't sure if it should go here or macOS, anyway.

When adding a memory module is it advisable to reset pram or it that basically used for problems?

I've upgraded the memory in my machine a few times, and I've never had to reset the PRAM. Provided the RAM is in good health and properly seated in its slots, the machine should just recognize it.

No, there is no need for a PRAM/NVRAM reset, when just adding new ram or upgrading existing ram.

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

Thanks guys, the reason for the question is when I had issues after installing a new module the folks at OWC suggested resetting the pram which appeared to work for a while. They replace . the module in question and I installed it yesterday, so far no issues but it seemed about a week before I had some before. I don't know if a couple games I download from Apple Store (free games) may have played a part in that. Time will tell. Thanks you guys again for your input.

I'm sure OWC had you reset the PRAM as a troubleshooting step...since you were having an issue with the new RAM. As others have said...resetting the PRAM when installing RAM is not normally necessary.

Congrats on what I'm assuming was a RAM upgrade.

Thanks Nick, yes it was an upgrade. I was getting beachballs playing a couple g5 strategy games (free from apps store), although I still have some issues with the games closing unexpectedly. I was actually thinking of putting back in the questionable ram so I would have a pair of 8gb to go along with a pair of 4gb that came with the system to see how it reacts, don't really need 24gb but if they work better together it would be an interesting test to try.
