Just purchased a new iMac to replace my MacBook Pro as my main machine. I want to transfer quite a few data files, such as music, Microsoft office documents, photos and the like as easily as possible.

Can I connect the computers and transfer directly?

    Potential pitfalls?

Apple has the info you need, start with that and then come back with questions: How to move your content to a new Mac - Apple Support

Hello Fireman - I just went through the same process - check my thread HERE - as already suggested, Apple has a number of support articles to guide you - good luck! Dave
