    Help w New Computer Purchase
So my current MacBook Pro Early 2013 w/ 8GB of Ram and 256SSD is dying and getting extremely slow. I currently only use my computer at a desk hooked up to a 4k monitor with a keyboard and mouse.

I am looking to upgrade and am stuck between 2 computers the Mac Mini w/ i7 16GB of Ram and 512GB SSD ($1699.99) and the Mac Pro 16GB of Ram and 256GB SSD (2999.99).

I also could go for the MacBook Pro which is 1999.99 and just use it with a monitor like I am doing now. It comes with 16GB of Ram and a 256GB SSD.

I currently am only streaming tv from the device, word documents, excel, very light photoshop, internet browsing, some light video editing (rarely), and more normal daily things. I am not making music, doing heavy video editing, or coding.

I want to get the Mac Pro but I really think it will be overkill for what I am going to be doing. I plan on using this as my main computer and buying a MacBook Air if I decide to start actually bringing my laptop anywhere if I decide to get a desktop.

    Mac Mini

Link is to "build your mini" below are the spec'd out specs I would want.

    3.2GHz 6‑core 8th‑generation Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 4.6GHz)
    16GB 2666MHz DDR4
    Intel UHD Graphics 630
    512GB SSD storage
Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet using RJ-45 connector)

    MacBook Pro

    Access Denied

Also, my current MacBook Pro has extremely sticky keyboard from keeping the lid closed I believe. I am nervous about that happening if I go with a laptop.

    Welcome to our forums.

Apple will be announcing new machines later on this year and rumor has it that we will see a new Mac Pro. However, I would not depend on the price being anywhere near $2999.99. Most likely, a lot higher.

Looking at your needs, the Mac Mini would be my choice since you already have a 4K monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Have to agree with Charlie. You could always use your current machine for those times when a portable is needed unless you are planning to sell it off. It's not as light as the Air though.

Exactly that would be my choice.

Hi! All I'm going to say is that you need to check out Mac Of All Trades. It's the way to go... great value, great support... a no brainer. Thank me and thousands of others later.

    You probably have a 13" 2013 model.
A 15" 2015 MPB has twice the RAM and twice the CPU cores.
It has all the connectivity of your current Mac, and is much faster.
Would cost only a few hundred dollars.
