    Pages For El Capitan
I have an antiquated Macbook Pro, 2008 model that was wiped clean last year, it had stopped functioning. Everything is on an external hard that was on it. That included iwork. It currently has El Capitan on it but won't download the latest version of pages because it requires 10.13 and I have 10.11.6.

I still have the iwork disk but the disk drive is not reading it or just not working anymore so I can't reload it. Talked to apple tech but they weren't able to help. Anyone aware of a way to get the older version of pages or something similar preferably for free? I just need it for occasional, simple word processing tasks.

    Thanx,
    Lo

First, try cleaning the disk drive with compressed air from one of those spray cans that you can buy most anywhere. If that doesn't work, let me know. I have an iWork09 free trial disk image that I can upload to you. The iWork09 free trial disk image works just like iWork09 and can be used indefinitely. The file is 473 MB so you will have to be able to download it via Apple Mail Drop as it will not upload by ordinary mail.

Be sure to try cleaning the disk drive first. We're talking here about a machine that is very old so there may be other problems with it and the disk drive.

Thank you for the offer, I don't have one of those spray cans and I don't get out much but will put it on my list. Do you think a gentle shot from a compressor would work?

You can try that if you wish, but be careful not to damage anything. Let us know.

Presume you are talking about a CD or DVD drive. These are very cheap and can replace what ever is there already. Maybe.

Or just purchase an external USB CD/DVD drive that are readily available and often well under $50.00.
