    Question Hub help and Recommendations?
    Hello all,

I have a Mac mini, Late 2012, as my main computer. As we all know, Apple seem to resist giving us very many USB ports, case in point, this mini has only 4. I have need of USB ports for the following:

    1. Keyboard (all the time)
    2. Webcam (All the time)
    3. UPS Interface (ll the time)
    4. iPhone
    5. Data Key/Thumb drive etc
    6. External Hard Drive for iTunes media (all the time)
    7. External Hard Drive for Misc. Data (all the time)
    8. External Hard Drive for audio recording (I'm a musician and in the process of producing an album)
    9. External Hard Drive for Time Machine (Also has FW800)
    10. SuperDrive (needs to be plugged into the machine directly as you all know)

As you can see, I need more than provided. The Drive for Time Machine has FireWire 800 ports, and I'm currently using it that way. However, I have installed a shelf on the wall that I would like to use for all the external hard drives, so I bought a USB 3.0 extension cable to get to the shelf, and I have attached a fan to blow on the drives to keep them cool, but I'm having trouble finding a USB 3.0 hub that actually works with out causing my computer to Kernel Panic. I've been through 3 of them now at different price points (Up to about $30) and just can't seem to have any success. The only hub I have that works every time I ask it to is the one that came with RockBand for my PS/2. It's only USB 2.0 which slows down my 3.0 enclosures...

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good USB 3.0 Hub? Four ports would be minimum. Once I get the hard drives sorted, I don't mind using the RockBand hub on my desk for thumbdrives and my phone and stuff and just plug stuff in as I need it.

    Many thanks!

    Trevor

No recommendations but with that purchase a mains powered unit.
Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

You could use a BT keyboard here, just sayin'.

Um, didn't the 2012 Mac mini *come* with a Superdrive?

The last mini with a SuperDrive was 2010.

And yes I could use a BT keyboard, but I haven't found one I like.
