Have you done this? (post #67 from the other threat):
Use the directions here and especially under the "Clear history for that site" topic in the FF Preferences:
Fix login issues on websites that require a username and password | Firefox Help

When it's all virgin after starting FF, then also hit the :Remember Me" box,

If I remember right, I just took the first step - clearing history.
Didn't clear cookies since that would have meant wiping out all auto logins on all sites I access with FF.

That solved this problem for me using FireFox

So far it's stuck for me after several FF restarts.

I have tried removing the MacForums details from Key Chain, and the Firefox Saved Passwords, and input them again. No joy.

I may be wrong, but I don't think FF uses any KeyChain stuff for any website login password stuff. I think it does use it's own settings and cache files and their contents that are completely separate.

I believe Patrick is correct about FF not using the keychain (which in my opinion is why it's troublesome) to store website passwords and other data. I do not use FF but when I ran Ubuntu on a PC that I used to own, FF was my browser of choice. I believe that FF is included with all versions of Ubuntu and many other distros of Linux.

Well done, Peter. In these difficult days, we all have to do our bit for the economy;D

FireFox definitely does NOT use keychain to store user name and password - that is a simple fact.

However, I don't think that makes FireFox troublesome in that regard - I use a lot of websites where FF is set to auto login and this forum is the only one I ever had a problem with in all the years.
In fact, FF not using keychain has to be an advantage for FF because the FF developers now don't have to chase and modify their software to accommodate every change to keychain Apple comes up with.

@krs:

You have to keep in mind that FF is a browser which works in other operating systems besides macOS which would mean it's probably to its advantage to not use operating system specific keys. Like I said above, I used FF with Linux and it worked well, however, it has never worked well for me in macOS. Matter of choice I suppose but I just don't like it.

With all the passwords that are required everywhere having to come up with a new password for this forum seems very inconvenient and totally unnecessary. That's my opinion and I'm stickin' to it!

Password managers which I am a strong exponent of especially the free in house Enpass app make changing passwords about as easy as it gets. Click on “generate new password” copy and paste it into the new password field on the forum’s change password page and thereafter use the app to autofill or allow you browser to update the existing stored password.
In my case I am using Firefox (I assume that everyone who is having problems with Firefox is actually logged into a Firefox account?) when I update by logging into Mac Forums on Firefox with my new password it immediately asks me if I want to update my stored password to which I answer yes and I never need to manually login again.

Good Morning all.

I have started again with a clear head - despite the Pinot Grigio!

First of all there was an update to Firefox, which I installed but that made no difference.

I have cleared all of the history in Firefox, I removed the Mac Forums Bookmark, I removed the Password entries in Firefox Saved Passwords and, just in case, removed the Password entries in Keychain. I re-entered my User Name and Password to log in to Mac Forums, ticked the Remember box and all appeared ok. I left the Mac Forums site and opened another site before accessing Mac Forums again by the new bookmark I had saved and it worked. I then quit Firefox.

I opened Firefox again then accessed Mac Forums via the new bookmark and......................................................my User Name and Password were gone so I had to log in again to post this item!!

I am going to have a go at Chrome, I think, but that involves adding it to an iMac, a PC, an iPad and two iPhones.

Maybe I'll try Chenin Blanc tonight!

Edit 11:21:- Chrome installed and seems to be running Mac Forums OK

I'll just repeat what I said in my last post because you certainly seem to have done everything else right and you didnt mention it. Are you logged into Firefox? Do you have a Mozilla account?

Yes to both, and when I enter the User Name and Password into Mac Forums in a 'virgin' Firefox I get asked if I want to save the Password and I accept it.

Chrome's looking good at the moment. ;)

I really sympathise, you seem to have tried everything. I remember I went through a period where I had to enter the first letter of my name, then it would autofill the rest of my name and putting the cursor in the password box and clicking once autofill the password. That was obviously better than nothing but since I upgraded to Quantum I haven’t had a problem. I know I had to keep ticking the “keep me logged in” box.

I just thought I'd try turning off synchronisation and log out of Firefox. Remove the User Name & Password from everywhere and reset the bookmark.

Didn't make the slightest bit of difference and I'm having second thoughts with Chrome.

Edit: Chrome is in the Trash! I had minor problems on both the PC & iMac and one of the iPhones is too old for it.

One day I'm sure Mac Forums will work with Firefox on my Mac until then I'll probably stop drinking wine and turn to Gin:sd

Is it correct that FireFox worked fine with this forum until you were forced to make the password change?
And does FireFox work on all the other forums where you use it?

I'm trying to establish if you are having the same problem I had or if yours is different.

Firefox worked perfectly with Mac Forums until I changed the password and now it doesn't.

I have no problems with any other forums on my Mac using Firefox. Firefox & Mac Forums still works perfectly on my iPhone, iPad and PC.

It makes no difference whether I access Mac Forums from a bookmark or from the link in emails.

Having downloaded Chrome the password was retained ok but other issues changed my mind about using it as the default browser.

There is no problem accessing Mac Forums from Safari.

Edit: I just thought I'd change the password and see what happened as I hadn't tried that before. Exactly the same! It's definitely only an issue when I QUIT Firefox.

Sounds pretty much exactly the same as the problem I had.I don't use iPhone, iPad or PC, so I don't know what the situation was there in my case.

However one difference - I have forum bookmrked in a folder tat is in the bookmark bar - not under "Bookmarks" at the very top of the screen, and for me auto-log in to this forum using that worked - at least for a few hours.

I'm going to look if I can find any notes how I resolved this - what bothers me now that I'm going to have that same problem once my next 120 days are up and I have to go through that password change again.

Actually that is where my bookmarks are as well but it makes no difference to how I launch Mac Forums wherever I start from.

I would doubt that it would really help, but maybe worth a try, and that's running Disk Utility > First Aid/Repair both "in place" and when booted from "Recovery HD". Maybe there's some sort of permission or something that's goofing things up, and all security stuff under Mojave seems to be really strict.

Anyway just a thought, but maybe worth giving it a shot and I doubt very much if the wine has got anything to do with it.

If so I'm in real trouble, but I don't and can't run Mojave. I do up my own wine at the local U-Brew and then it's bagged into 5 liter Mylar bags then put into their dispenser boxes. Not much variety that way but it works well and it sure is a lot cheaper. :Smirk:

PS: After my last compulsory forum password change auto log-in problems, I finally got it fixed as I did the previous time a few years ago, by waiting a few days and changing the password back to what I had originally and everything seems to work well with that method. Including Safari, Firefox and Chrome that is my main browser, all running in Mavericks, OS 10.9.5.

pine man, if Firefox is giving you problems with passwords why don't you just switch to Safari?

Also, if you sign into the iCloud for winOS, Download iCloud for Windows - Apple Support, it will sync your macOS/iOS bookmarks with your winOS browser. IE by default, but with an add-on for other major browsers.
