Tried to get to community forum to read status but could not find. A link provided in a reply not working!

Tried to login to new forum and even tho email and owner same as this forum... would not recognize me at all.

I tried to look at my old posts on this forum and cannot get to them. Used to just click my posts....
Have they been deleted? Screen comes up wanting to me ‘ enter search’ parameters.

Sure lot of issues with forums now
and I hope we don’t lose this or new forum totally as I has been so helpful to many!

First the good news:

1. Have you seen the post that says this forum will continue to operate.
2. Your posts are still here. I just did a search and they are indeed still here.

Now for the cloud on what I presume is your happy dance. In all the comings and goings over the last few days some users are experiencing unusual forum behavior. Please post your issue in this thread. The admin team is watching that thread for issues our members may be having and trying to correct them as quickly as possible. If you have not already done so try a different web browser if you have one installed. Some users are having issues with one web browser and not having issues with a different browser.

When I did a search for your posts aI had to answer a question that appeared at the bottom left of that search page. I thought that issue had gone away but it seems to have come back (at least for me). That might be why you didn't see any search results.

For those having issues with Safari, I am on the latest Mac OS here with Safari and no issues so far.
I am still experiencing these issues using Safari on High Sierra;

Since you asked:

"My Posts" takes me to the Advanced Search page
No profile data on my systems

Otherwise, it all looks good. I'm on HS, with latest Safari and all updates.

Can't send PM's or respond to ones sent to me. I get redirected to an error page named "500" (which would indicate a server error) although the content of the error says "Page not found" (which should actually be a 404).

Jake, has the issue you are having been intermittent or pretty consistent? I ask because I had that issue with the current version of Safari for a while then it went away, A day or so later it was back again for an hour or so and hasn't been back for me since then.

Sly, it's been that way since the DNS issues a week ago. I suspect the DNS issue was the site being moved (just speculating) and that something in the move triggered it. Plus, I get the same responses in Opera, so it's not Safari. I think it's the site. I don't see ANY profiles on any post, including yours. And My Posts has consistently taken me to the Advanced Search page.

Yeah. the profile profile/specs problem seems to be affecting everyone. Dennis and Nick have been working on that. It may be a combination of VBulletin and one of its plugins.

As far as the search issue goes, that one seems to be affecting some users and not others. Just looking for more info to try and pin things down a bit better.

I did. Yours was the one referred to by my "or respond to ones sent to me" piece. ;)

No one on this thread has acknowledged that the issue has been recorded or is being looked into as of yet, so no idea what the status might be. Or why it might be happening. Or what things I should try (besides another browser) to test. Or what data to gather or provide.

That was an old issue, that I would love to have the ability to add an avatar.

I may have to delete this account and create a new one to have this ability so it seems.

Please don't do that...you would lose all your current account info you worked so hard to accumulate.:'(

Once some of the more pressing issues are worked out...we can revisit the avatar bug.:)

Although no one has acknowledged my issue as of yet, I did some additional digging and found some things that I feel are very interesting.

- As it pertains to Private Messaging, the issue for me is not very "cut and dry". I am able to send myself very short PM's, but anything longer than a few sentences worth seems to result in the errors I previously described. I -AM- able to send PM's, they just need to be very short.
- Notifications for new PM's (the email I receive) are basically a mess. They are not formatted but are raw XML type text. Pretty much completely worthless and unreadable. Notifications of new posts seem ok.
- There is a MAJOR PROBLEM with the functionality of this site. Whatever hosting provider currently is serving up the content has some sort of rate-limiting / security type device sitting in front of the site and dropping connections if various patterns of traffic or thresholds are being crossed. I can get complete blackout to the site on one computer and have full access on another at the same time. It seems that there's some sort of logic that's blocking the IP Address. This may well be what folks have been running into and believing they were fixing by clearing their browser cache. This is a major functional issue that needs to be understood and corrected right away more users are going to be lost.

For me, the way that this entire process has been handled to this point has turned me off to being a community member here. And that stinks because there used to be a lot of really smart and helpful folks here that I learned a lot from. That sort of spirit has absolutely dwindled in the last six months and I don't see any sign of it getting back on track.

For now, I'm out. Maybe one day I'll be back, if whomever is now overseeing this site at the highest level can steer it back out of the shallow waters before it completely runs aground.

It's your choice to leave. It seems a bit precipitous to me, given that the folks here are still here, but before you go, can you show the science behind your assertion of limiting? I have had multiple windows in multiple browsers open to the site simultaneously on multiple machines in my location and not seen any evidence of rate limiting or security dropping of any session. If you are going to heave that rock, it should be possible to show the mods how you came to that conclusion. Just saying "it doesn't work" is not helpful to them to find and fix any such issue.

It wasn't pointedly laid out, but my previous post shows it...

I have two machines that I operate at the same time. One is in one location with an Internet connection and the other is in a second location with its own Internet connection. The second one is one that I connect to remotely from the first location. I operate both simultaneously.

Connecting from the first machine and attempting to send PM's results in error after error. At some point, the site just gets "mad" at me at drops my connections. The TCP stack on this machine shows "SYN_SENT" and the browser simply says "Connecting..."

While the first machine is spinning in La-La Land, the second machine connects right in and keeps going browsing, transitioning pages, and doing whatever I ask it to do. During the entire time, I keep refreshing the page request on the first machine and it never connects. It takes seemingly 15-30 minutes before the connections will come back.

If I reverse the usage of the machines, the problems reverse as well. There some sort of controlling system that lives between the users and the actual web server and it's impacting the use of the site.

This is a big part of what I do for a living (and have done for a very long time). I deeply understand web servers, db servers, application architecture, Internet connectivity, networking, App Delivery Controllers, Web App Firewalls, and all sorts of other related items. I tried offering assistance when a plan was being discussed to handle the pending shutdown, but no one was interested in what I could offer. Now it seems that some decisions may have been made about "what to do" with this site that are impacting the user experience and all kinds of quirky little issues are being reported. Since absolutely nothing has been shared about what's actually happening in the background, I can only speculate using my 30 years of troubleshooting experience as to what is likely going on.

@Ember1205 If I engaged in conspiracy theories I might agree with your assessment of the situation but there is a hughe problem with it. Let's assume that the current owners have the site for the purely altruistic motive of keeping our little community together. Isn't it likely that they would likely want to at least break even on covering the costs of running the site? You can't effectively do that by limiting traffic because that means fewer eyeballs looking at the ads and thus fewer perspective buyers.

In the real world, the goal is more likely to generate at a profit. I have no problem with that but once again how does limiting the traffic in any way lead to a profit.
