I also wonder if pine man got his lack of subscription email notification sorted out or fixed as per his recent #13 post???

Yes, it just started working at the same time as Tomos. It was nothing that I had done and I assumed it had been resolved at the server.

Patrick, do you get the Mac-Forums newsletter? Or does that come from a different sender?

I just got a Mac-Forums Weekly Newsletter copy today thanks Bob, but it's very hit-and-miss and I don't think I've had one for many months previously.

It also looks like it got sent by a different email server, so I don't think the two are related.

Thanks Peter, but I guess we'll never know what the problem was or the solution with your situation.

This can be changed no problem. Just PM with the different email address...and we'll make the adjustment.:)

- Nick

Thanks Nick, but is it better to PM you with my alternate email address or for me to do the changes myself in my Settings page???

I have never received a Mac-Forums Weekly Newsletter - but I do get Email Notifications, sometimes more than one for the same thread like just now for this one - one at 2:24pm and one at 2:27pm.

Patrick contacted me because after he changed his email he can't even get into the forum any more.

Here is what he said:
I was able to change my settings e-mail account to a new one.
Then my password would not work and I was told I had to change it because it had not been changed for 145 days.
Finally got the password sorted out with difficulty and finally working so now I could login.
But even though I am logged in I cannot do anything as the yellow banner says: “! have not activated your account yet” which I have to tried to do umpteen times.

I have still not received any e-mail so I have not received any authorization code;
This is the banner I get when logged into Mac-forums site:

see Screen Shot attached

I do not get any email reply after clicking on the “here”, so I cannot authorize my account, so I'm basically stuck between a rock and a hard place.

BTW - It doesn't look like the forum accepts .png files even though those are listed as valid file extensions.
I had to change the screen shot to jpg so that I could upload it to the forum

@Nick:

That doesn't sound right. You and I have made email changes in the Admin panel many times before and it never locked a member out. I'm wondering if Patrick changed something in his profile that he wasn't supposed to?

I assume you and/or Nick can check that Patrick's profile settings are OK.

Wanted to address this. The image below is a .png file...and it uploads just fine.

I normally use the "Insert Image" button on the toolbar to incorporate images..:)

This is really weird and may relate to Patrick's problem with the forum.

The .png file I just uploaded in the previous thread is a image I had on my Mac.
It obviously uploaded fine.

Previously, when I made the comment about png not uploading, that was the png file I received from Patrick.
That png opened fine in the email from him, I then saved it to a folder on my Mac, it opened there fine as well, but then when I tried to select it to post in the forum, that png was somehow rejected by the forum oftware - by rejected I mean it just didn't show in the folder at all when I clicked on "browse" and selected that folder on my Mac.
So I then saved it as a jpg and uploaded that fine.

I just tried that again with the same result - the png file is in the folder on my Mac, opens with no issues, but doesn't show at all if I try to upload that image to the forum.
Can't say I have ever experienced that before.

And just an additional note:

tiff files are files that are not supported as attachments in this forum, but they still show fine when I go to add an attachment and browse to that same folder where Patrick's png doesn't even show.
What is going on here? This is really strange but maybe it gives a hint why Patrick is having trouble receiving emails from the forum.

Something to do with Trump and his trade policies. No import tariff was paid on that image (Canada to United States)...therefore it was rejected as upload-able!;)

Let's try this

This is the same image that would not post before - the original still does not show in the folder, this one that just posted here is a .png that I converted from the .jpg was came from the original png image from Patrick.

So
Original png image from Patrick does not show in folder when browsing to add image to forum
Converted that to jpg - posted fine
Converted that jpg to png. that new png posted fine as well

I don’t know if it could matter, but could this new issue, have to do with using an older OS? We all know Patrick is still using Mavericks, but I don’t understand how it can affect the emails he is not receiving?

Just testing here and thanks to krs and Nick and their direct involvement in trying to get at least part of this problem sorted out, the last being an inability to get an email authorization code after I changed to another email address.

At least now I can login it, which I was actually able to do, but now things actually work properly, like viewing attachments and posting since Nick manually activated my account.

There still doesn't seem to be any sign of any email subscription notifications, so all the extra work to change to a different email address hasn't changed a thing other than causing a lot of other problems to actually get it back working properly.

Just as another test, here's the original PNG graphic I sent to krs just to see if it will work for me:

View attachment 30525

Anyway, I'm now actually able to login and post, but it looks like the email problems and subscription notifications problems still exists.

Thanks again to krs and Nick for their manual involvement and help.
