Hi there.

As the title suggests, I'm trying to see what kind of price I could be looking to get if I were to sell my 17" MBP. Like many other people, I recently upgraded the memory, SSD and replaced the battery.

Specs:

2.8GHz Core2Duo CPU
8GB Corsair Memory
500GB Samsung SSD
nVidia Geforce 9600M GT 512MB GPU/256MB onboard video, selectable
OS X 10.11.6 (El Capitan)

Battery was just replaced a few weeks ago, old battery was in a condition other than "Good" so it was replaced.

Power adapter, superdrive and speakers all work fine without issue.

Small scratch on bottom cover, minor and unseen with the laptop on a table to other surface. Missing 1 screw from the bottom cover, still holds in place perfectly fine.

Please let me know any other info that could be helpful in determining an accurate price, or if this computer wouldn't fetch very much anyway. Mac2Sell prices this MBP at $940USD... Somehow I think that's grossly inaccurate.

That price is about $500 or more over what is likely the going price for that laptop. While you have spent money on it recently, it'd be hard to recoup that since the machine is already running the latest version of the OS (El Cap) and that's already 3 releases behind the latest.

That is a 9+ year old computer. I wouldn't spend more than $150 on something that old, if that, sorry.

Do a search on eBay for your location area for that Mac model, and then click the "Completed Items" option in the left column to see what prices similar units sold for.

That will normally be fairly accurate and close to reality.

Thanks for this. I wasn't aware of that functionality to check finished items and if they sold or not and for what price.

Thanks for the replies, I think I have enough info to know where I stand.

I was curious...and took a look.:) Like Patrick mentioned...I usually use the "completed items/sold items" to filter the search results. I was seeing anywhere from $250-$400 (probably closer to $300-$350). It is hard to add exact value for the RAM & SSD upgrades. If anything...they will help it sell faster.:)

Do you still have this? This is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE MacBook Pros that Apple ever made! I'm interested in it. Can you send me some pics of it, including the scratches? These MacBooks are prone to stripping threads that hold the bottom plates in place. Is that why the screw is gone?

That is a 9+ year old computer. I wouldn't spend more than $150 on something that old, if that, sorry.
My 15" MBP is from the same time, and it's been the most reliable computer I've EVER had. I'd easily spend money on it for the 17". Less than $150 for this computer is a complete joke!
