Trash won't work?

Hi all,

I wanted to trash a few things on my desktop and dragged them to the trash to delete them but it seems to 'bounce' them right back. What's happened? There hasn't been any major changes to the mac. Any ideas?

Does anything from anywhere not go in, or is just desktop icons?

Also, if they were programs, were they running when you tried to trash the files? That might account for the problem. If for nothing else, try rebooting the computer. If a file is in use, to my knowledge, most computers won't let you trash a file that is currently in use by some program.
