This will probly sound really dumb but here goes. How come certain things I download go nicely into a folder somewhere but some want to be on the desktop under my hd and optical drive. The two offending programs are msn messenger and VLC (videolan) not sure why, and if I click/drag them trash can turns into the eject icon. Thanx for any help

Those are called DMGs, the program comes in these, they are similar to Zip files. What you do once you download them is open it up, drag the program to anywhere on your computer (usually your application folder) and than eject the Dmg, you can do this one of two ways.

1. Like you said drag it to the trash and eject the dmg.

2. Open up the finder and click the eject symbol.

If neither of these works it means the program that is in it needs to be quit and than you may eject the dmg.
