Shouldn't your signature be:

There are 10 types of people in the world. those who understand binary and those who don't

i like them :) ;) :p

I like them too, and they're well done and creative, but in my opinion one of the main purposes of smilies is to help express emotion in a post, which unfortunately I don't think these do very well. Would it be possible to include some more traditional "emotion" smilies as well?

I agree, there are a some traditional-type smilies missing. We could add in some of the old ones, but personally I would prefer to have a consistent look rather than cover all possible smilies. We've done our best to map the old codes to the new smilies and its the result of this that some of the codes (eg ) don't really correspond to images that accurately portray the intended emotion. Once again, I figured this would be better than having stray "" text displaying in older posts.

Perhaps we could change some of the codes to not display an image at all (e.g. ;), :D) - I'd like to hear more opinions on this.

Im thinking some of you graphics people out there create some smilies for the forums :) Maybe post a list of all possible smilies and people go at it!

As much as the new smilies are pretty fantastic, I don't think the normal ordinary one :) looks particular happy. In fact he looks pretty evil.
