• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

My first time using Final Cut Express. Everything was going well until it stopped letting me add cross dissolves. I already used this transition about 20 times. Now when I add it, it just gets ignored. Also the dither dissolve is ignored. But I seem to be able to add any other transition and they will work.

Any idea what is going on?

thanks

Make sure you have enough footage on both sides of the cut before you add the dissolve. In other words, clip "A" ends and is supposed to dissolve into clip "B". Make sure that clip "A" has enough footage after the cut and clip "B" has enough footage before the cut, then add the dissolve. Alternatively you can layer the video so that clip "B" is above "A". Slide "B" over "A" to the point where you want the dissolve to start. The add a dissolve to clip "B" only (right click on the edge of "B" and choose Cross Dissolve). You can adjust the length of the dissolve by stretching it back and forth or right clicking it and adjusting the time. Right clicking is essential in FCP.
