• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I just have one question. Is there anything faster then Handbrake programs for converting DVD movies to ipod mp4's. One Dvd around 1:45 is taking like 18 or more hours on my G4 1.25 powerbook. Please help. Help me please. I don't want to have to re-buy my movies from itunes that I already own on dvd. And I don't want to steal movies from Limewire. I just want to watch the stuff I already paid for. I believe that that is fair. Please help.

According to your profile notes, you only have 512 mb of RAM. That's barely enough to run the OS. As it is.. yer slogging along on a G4. Your computer is simply underpowered to do the task any faster.

In addition to your computer limitation, be sure to check the settings of your rip in Handbrake. For iPod viewing, the low rez setting works great and creates the smallest (and fastest) rip. Also, don't select "two passes" -- cuts time more than in half and doesn't lose appreciable quality.

I've ripped several movies and TV shows, and the rip time is roughly the playtime (`06 iMac 2.0).

Like Daddy Elmis stated, you probably have it set to 2 pass encoding, which is why you're experiencing such long conversion times (and of course, there's the RAM limitation).
