OS 9.2 to OS 10.2 on a G3?

Hi, new to this forum so if i am posting in the wrong place just let me know!

I am currently running an old blue imac with a 20Gb Hard Drive, 350 Processor and 128Mb Ram (which i will be updating when my mate scraps his old broken one at work)

I want to update to 10.2 (10.3 would **** on my machine) but i am worried because i keep reading stories about people doing this and their macs blowing up etc. Any suggestions? I know i have to upgrade my firmware (?) which i can do at apple.com but anything else would be great. Oh and any tips for running theme hospital/ roller coaster tycoon 1 on vpc3/4 or 5 running windows 98 would also be appriciated...

Why would 10.3 be worse? It runs so much faster than 10.2 on even old machines.

Well, unless you have a copy of OS X lying around, you're not going to be able to upgrade for GBP 3.90.

But you should have no problem upgrading to 10.2 or 10.3 so long as you have a legit copy.

10.2 should run fine, I guess. I don't think your Mac would blow up (!), but if it does you can blame Mac Forums. 10.2 should run great, up your RAM though! 128MB isn't sufficient to run OS X. So once you get your friend's RAM your Mac will run really smooth.

As for running RCT or Theme Hospital, don't even try it. On a brand new dual 2.5GHz G5 tower with 2GB RAM, Rollercoaster Tycoon running on Virtual PC would act like an old Pentium 1. I can't even imagine what it would be like on an old 350 G3 *shudders*. Don't go there. If you want to play games, use a PC, if you want to do everything else use your Mac. But seriously, you're better off picking up a used Pentium 2 or something than getting Virtual PC, because it runs about 10x slower.
