if i export straight as quicktime movie its same the crappy quality as the canvas.

but if i export using quickitime conversation its perfect!!

On the SEQUENCE tab on the upper left corner of the timeline, there is a tab that says RT. Change it to SAFE. Render. Now try exporting. I am only guessing that this is the problem based on your limited description, but I imagine that some setting somewhere is not set correctly.

DV is a weird codec... at least the way Quicktime handles it. It defaults to low quality even though all of the real quality is there. Export a Quicktime MOive as you did before, then open the QT file up and press Apple + J at the same time. A new window will open (assuming you have QT Pro). Click on "VIDEO TRACK" and then the "VISUAL SETTINGS" tab. Click the HIGH QUALITY checkbox and make sure the others are not checked. Did the video quality improve? If it did, feel free to take that file to another Final Cut Pro, as all of the quality will still be there.

A lot of the reds will still look pixelated simply because that's the nature of the DV codec. It really compresses the reds something fierce. Fortunately this is usually hidden pretty well when viewed on a TV... unless you have a scene with nothing but red.

Maybe you need to delete FCP's preferences. They can sometimes get corrupted.

First, make sure FCP is not running. That means absolutely quit, no triangle under its icon in the Dock, etc. Make sure Quicktime is not running as well, just like FCP.

Go into Macintosh HD (or whatever you named your hard drive) .

Go into your home directory.

Now navigate: Library > Preferences

Drag the file called com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist to the trash.

Scroll down to the Final Cut Pro User Data folder.

Drag the files called Final Cut Pro POA Cache, Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs.fcset and Final Cut Pro Prof Cache.fcpch to the trash. If you don't have all of these files, don't worry. Just drag the ones you have to the trash.

Empty the trash.

You will have to reset all of your preferences in Final Cut Pro, but it shouldn't take too long. Now try to export again.
